Essay on advantages and disadvantages of Online examination

Introduction:
In the current global situation almost all the exams are conducted
online. As there are no possible ways to conduct exams, online exams
have become the one and only option for all the educational
institutions and universities all over the world to assess the student’s
knowledge on the subject. Now let’s see the advantages and
disadvantages of online examination.
Advantages of online examination:
1) The student’s need not travel to write the examination and it
saves their time.
2) The cost of conducting exams can be reduced.
3) The distribution of the exam doesn't take you any time. Just
upload the email addresses of your students and send them an
invite. And after the exam they get their result instantly.
4) Online exam helps the students to understand a topic
conceptually.
5) As the results of the exam are given instantly, students will be
stress free and relaxed. (Since they need not wait for the results
for a long time.)
6) One of the greatest advantages of online exam for the students is
that they need not worry about their hand writing being good or
bad, as most of the online exams are conducted with MCQ’s but
still some educational institutions conduct pen and paper exams.
Disadvantages of online examination:
1) As the exam is executed online, it needs a good internet
connection. The connection is not constant in some places. Hence,
if connectivity loses, then there is a high probability of getting the
entire response failure if the backup doesn’t exist.
2) Not everyone can adjust themselves in the online examination
environment either physically, mentally, or financially. Some of
the students don’t have access to large screens to better view the
lengthy questions. And some of them lack the process of
execution.
3) The chances for malpractices are higher though the students are
monitored by remote proctors.
4) Students may get stressed when they are not able to submit their
answer scripts.
5) The students may get tensed if they experience connectivity
issues.
6) Most educational institutions use software to conduct exams,
where candidates are asked to share the screen, operate the
camera, and operate the microphone. So the software
automatically detects everything and displays a warning note,
which attracts the student's attention, and he focuses on getting
rid of it, and time runs out.
Conclusion:
As far as online exams are concerned there are both drawbacks and
benefits but one must try to eliminate the drawbacks, make use the
benefits and adopt himself to this new normal until and unless we get
rid of the Global pandemic situation.
