(DIARY WRITING)
WHAT IS DIARY WRITING?

Diary writing is all about expressing your thoughts, opinions and feelings
in writing form, using informal language, appropriately.
In diary writing, you may include your personal views/interests,
observations, imaginations and background knowledge as your content,
while including one part of description, in your writing.
Keep in mind that diary writing is a reflection on what had happened and
it is regarded as a record of your actions which helps you to express your
feelings
DIARY WRITING (EXAM-BASED)
In exam, you will be given a general question which will probe you into expressing your
feelings and reflecting on your actions.
You may highlight on the following as a way to express your feelings/emotions better, in your
exam:
a) ideas/dreams
b) Expressions/phrases that you have heard and you agree/disagree with it
c) Interesting events which makes you feel happy/relaxed/contented/rejuvenated
d) Information on people which attracts your attention

SUCCESS CRITERIA (WHAT TO INCLUDE)
Write using the first person pronoun : 'I‘, ‘We’, ‘Us’
Clear paragraphs written, which complements the requirement of the question
A clear sense of the writer's personality and explanation on their feelings and changing emotions
Focus on key moments or incidents that happened at a particular time
Provide a sense of time and sequence (use time connectives: finally, afterwards, earlier, later that day...)
Varied Punctuation (fullstop, quotation marks, question marks, exclamation marks)
Varied Sentence types (use of dialogue, interjection, statements, questions, etc)

Wow! I couldn’t believe it just yet. The moment I greeted everyone at the dining table for breakfast
this morning, I saw a lilac box tied with a white ribbon placed at my usual dining spot. I grinned and
hugged Mom and Dad with my squeaky voice as I said, ‘Thank you!’ to them. Well, that’s how I
sound when I couldn’t control the rush I feel in my body out of excitement. I had received a present
for my 14th birthday from my loved ones. Truly a pleasant surprise!
