CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATION

SUMMARY
Plants are significant organisms that utilizes the production of oxygen,

which is a vital component that supports life in the planet. In order to grow, they

require constant resource from sunlight, water, and soil they were planted in to

absorb nutrients (Nelson, 2017). This paper focuses on the seedlings of Capsicum

Frutescens or Siling Labuyo, a specie of pepper commonly found in the

Philippines (Robledo, 2020), and its growth performance under 2-hour sunlight

exposure. Other parameters such as height, number of leaves, and differences in

physical characteristics would also be observed. The seedlings were exposed to

different sunlight; Seedling 1 under daytime sunlight, and Seedling 2 under

noontime sunlight. This study could benefit the students, Agricultural Institution

of San Ildefonso, Science Institution of San Ildefonso, and future researchers. The

researcher utilized an Experimental Research Design as a means to determine the

objectives of the paper. The two Capsicum f. seedlings were measured weekly to

document their growth progress and to also calculate their growth rate. The

allotted time for the experimentation proper to take place would be three weeks

and another one week to analyze the results exhibited by the seedlings after the

study was conducted. After analyzing the gathered data, the researcher were able

to find the effects of different sunlight exposure on Capsicum Frutescens

seedlings, the results are as follows; (a) on Week 3 the height of S1 was measured

to be 8 inches, which is 4.8 inches taller from its initial height, and S2 is about 16
inches, 9 inches taller from its height before the study started, (b) for number of

leaves, S1 has 15 and S2 has 78 by the end of the study, (c) S1 and S2 were found

to have significant differences on their physical characteristics as S1 is smoother

in leaf and stem texture and quite unstable while S2 has firmer stem and rougher

leaf and stem texture, and (e) the researcher found out that S2 received the most

growth in all the parameters observed in the study.

CONCLUSION

Capsicum Frutescens Siling Labuyo is a commonly cultivated chili in the

Philippines. It is known to be a “sun loving plant” as it can grow under intense

sunlight conditions. This study, however, used the said plant to investigate how a

controlled sunlight exposure could affect its growth and development. Two

specimens were put under experimentation to conduct the study. They were put

under 2-hour sunlight duration; one was exposed during 7 am to 11 am while the

other was at 12 pm to 3 pm. Then, the seedlings’ progress was documented by

measuring their height, counting the number of leaves, and computing their

growth rate weekly. This process utilizes photosynthesis, an activity in which

plants engages in to produce their own food necessary for their development,

which lasted for three weeks before the study ended. Different parameters were

observed to fully determine the effects of different sunlight exposure on the

seedlings’ growth.

The research concluded that plants will have different growth pattern and

development if exposed to different sunlight considering the fact that the

specimen are of the same chili specie. Furthermore, the growth rate of Capsicum

f. seedlings is best observed during 12 pm to 3 pm sunlight.

RECOMMENDATION

On the process of doing the study, the researcher observed some ideas that

could give further knowledge and supporting information for this study. The

researcher recommends to use different plant variations to widen the range of field

study regarding this topic and gain a more in-depth understanding as to how

different sunlight exposures affects the growth of plants. Also, having a wider

arrays of sunlight exposure, such as longer or shorter duration under sunlight, is

highly advised. Examining other parameters other that the physical characteristics

of plants is also suggested to full discover and understand the growth pattern of

plants under varying sunlight exposure.
