4.1 Starting Activity  Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Review of the previous topic
-The teacher asks the students what they have learned about the topic. The previous topic was
all about “Critiquing a Literary Selection” The teacher asks some questions with regards to this
topic as to how far is their learning on the previous topic.

4.2 Activity  The teacher asks the students to look around and point out what they have seen around them.
There are tables, chairs, blackboard, classroom and etc. Emphasize to students that what they
have seen around us are all product of research.

4.4 Abstraction  What is Research?
*RESEARCH is the systematic investigation and study of materials and sources to establish facts and
reach new conclusions. In various spheres of human life, research has come up with developing
appropriate solutions to improve the individual’s quality of life (Walker, 2010).
*RESEARCH is creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge. It
involves the collection, organization and analysis of information to increase understanding of a topic
or issue.
 What is a research paper?
*A research paper is the organization of all the information you have gathered after exploring your
topic in depth. In a research paper, you include information from sources such as books, articles,
interviews, and internet sites. You also use your own ideas, knowledge and opinions in writing a
research paper.
 The following are the basic steps in preparing your research paper.
*Choose and limit a topic
*Decide your research title
*Make a preliminary outline
*Explore, read and gather data
*Take down notes
*Write your draft
*Revise your draft
*Prepare the final form

4.5 Application A. Direction: Identify the following technical terms used in research. Write your answer on the answer
sheet provided by the teacher.

1. It is an art of scientific investigation. A careful and detailed study into a specific problem,
concern, or issue using the scientific method. It is regarded as a systematic effort to gain new
knowledge. It is a careful investigation or inquiry especially through search for new facts in any
branch of knowledge (dictionary meaning)-RESEARCH
2. A piece of academic writing that provides analysis, interpretation and argument based on in-
depth independent research. –RESEARCH PAPER
3. It is a short summary of your completed research intended to describe your work without going
into detail. It should be self-contained and concise, explaining your work as briefly and clearly as
possible.-ABSTRACT
4. The next part after the title and abstract. It leads the reader from general subject area to a
particular topic of inquiry. –INTRODUCTION
5. It provides an overview of sources you have explored including books, scholarly articles, and
any other sources relevant to a particular issue, area of research, or theory to demonstrate to
your readers how your research fits within a larger field of study.-LITERATURE REVIEW OR
RRL.
6. A statement of expectation or prediction that will be tested by research. It is commonly known as
the researcher’s intellectual guess or wild guess about the possible result of this study.-
HYPOTHESIS
7. The systematic method to resolve a research problem through data gathering using various
techniques, providing an interpretation of data gathered, and drawing conclusions about the
research data.-METHODOLOGY
8. Any factor, trait, or condition that can be manipulated or controlled for, or measured in an
experiment.- VARIABLE

B. Direction: Below are the five topics about local treasure or heritage in your community. After some
thoughts, rank them according to your preference. Use the answer sheet for your answers.

4.6 Assessment Direction: Using what you have learned about writing a research paper, and utilizing your answers from
the given activities, write a research paper about a local treasure or heritage in your own town or
municipality. You can research more information to make your work comprehensive. Refer to the scoring
rubric for your guide.

4.7 Assignment On our next meeting I will check the progress of your research paper. Work on it.
4.8 Wrap up / Concluding The teacher asks the student “Why there is a need to conduct research on problems in the community?”

6. Reflection Research is an important part of our lives. It enables us to go on adventure, to discover and to invent.
Think about it: without research, there would be no knowledge to make our life more meaningful, no
technology to make our existence dynamic. In fact, we do research consciously and unconsciously,
everyday.
