IV. LEARNING PHASES Learning Activities
Timeframe

A. Introduction 15 minutes DAY 1

Panimula Good day! Welcome to our first day of the lesson.
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
1. express fractions to decimal and percent forms,
2. express decimals to fractions and percent forms, and
3. express percent to fractions and decimal forms.

Let’s answer this essential question.

How frequently do we use fractions, decimals, and percentages in our daily

lives?

Activity No.1
List down five (5) things or situations where you applied fractions in your daily
living.
1. ________________________________________________________________
2. ________________________________________________________________
3. ________________________________________________________________
4. ________________________________________________________________
5. ________________________________________________________________

Upon completing activity 1, you were able to prepare yourself for the
concepts that we will discuss today.

B. Development 45 minutes Do the following figures represent the same thing?

Pagpapaunlad 0.10 10% 1/10

If your answer is YES, you are correct. The figures represent the same thing but
only differ in form.

When a whole quantity or set is divided into parts, each part is called a
𝑎
fraction. A fraction is a number written in the form , where a and b are whole
𝑏
numbers but b cannot be zero. The number on top, a is called the numerator,
and the number below b is called the denominator.

A fraction is part of a whole, the percentage is used as fractions also, and

it is a number or ratio that represents a fraction of 100. It is often denoted by
the symbol “%” or simply as “percent”.

Another form of number as part of a whole is a decimal number. In algebra,

a decimal number can be defined as a number whose whole number part
and the fractional part are separated by a decimal point.

Things to ponder
Decimals, Fractions, and Percentages are just different ways of presenting the
same value. To prove, you must learn how to convert or express a value into
different forms.

To develop your conversion skills please read with understanding the following
lessons.

HOW TO EXPRESS PERCENT TO DECIMAL?

Divide by 100 and remove the % sign. An easy way to divide by 100 is
to move the decimal point 2 places to the left:
From Percent To decimal

100% The percentage symbol will be

replaced by a decimal point that
will be moved 2 places to the left.
The answer is 1

HOW TO EXPRESS DECIMAL TO PERCENT

Multiply by 100%. An easy way to multiply by 100 is to move the decimal
point 2 places to the right
From Decimal To Percent

.10 A decimal number at the last digit

of a number will be replaced by a
percentage symbol %

The answer is 10%

HOW TO EXPRESS FRACTION TO DECIMAL

Divide the top number by the bottom number

Example: Convert to a decimal
5
Divide 3 by 5: 3 ÷5 = 0.6

HOW TO EXPRESS DECIMAL TO FRACTION

A little tricky ☺
