STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I, Basil Valsalan, desire to draw your attention to the below given information
regarding my educational background and express the purpose of applying for
study permit to pursue my higher studies in the 4 year degree program in
Businessand Management from Oxford Brookes University , Oxford , England,
United Kingdom in the January 2020 intake.
My academic excellence has always been my strongest asset throughout my life.
I secured overall 86% marks in my high school examination and 78% marks in
my higher secondary examination. I scored above 70% for all subjects in my
12th grade and above 85% in English. After my high school I did a 2month
IELTS coaching and 5month course in Computer programming
After my Higher Secondary Education, I was looking to take a study program,
where I could utilize my strength and nurture my inborn skills rather than
choosing a conventional field that I would grow out of quickly. I found that
many of my classmates have opted for courses like engineering and health
programs that seem to be the most sought after programs. I did not choose to go
for such courses as I know my interest does not lie in these areas. As I realized
this, I started analysing what my strengths and weakness are. I was determined
to take up a course that would help me enhance my strengths.
India has adapted to the trend of globalization and transformed from a low-tech
manufacturing base into a technology-based economy. By growing up in such a
dynamic and quickly developing economy has given me a strong interest in
taking part in the business and commerce world of the future. With this
longstanding interest in business, I am very eager to begin engaging in business
sector. I believe that further study in UK is an important first step on the path to
my career goals. I believe the UK is the ideal setting for refining my expertise in
Business and Management while also acquiring a broader, international
viewpoint.
I realized that studying an undergraduate business program in a much-
developed country would help me excel in my field of study as many of these
countries have programs which are more advanced than courses offered in
India. I also know that, studying in a country like UK, would improve my
personality and interpersonal skills as I would be getting ample opportunities to
mingle with people from various places.
UK is gifted with a number of industries, economic sector and many other
unique business programs. Studying the chosen program in this country mainly
offers the scope of practical exposures. Also, my decision of choosing UK as
the destination for higher studies is not just to acquire a quality education but
also to gain an international exposure. I believe this international education will
help me overcome any inhibitions that I am likely to face in this industry.
The Business and Management is a FOUR-year undergraduate program that
will provide learning experiences, General knowledge and skill areas that
include communication abilities, ethical understanding and reasoning abilities,
analytic skills, use of information technology, understanding of multicultural
and diversity issues, and reflective thinking skills.
Management-specific knowledge and skill areas that include ethical and legal
responsibilities in organizations and society; financial theories, analysis,
reporting and markets; creation of value through the integrated production and
marketing of goods, services, and information; group and individual dynamics
in organizations; statistical data analysis and management science as they
support decision-making processes throughout an organization; information
technologies as they influence the structure and processes of organizations and
economies, and as they influence the roles and techniques of management;
domestic and global economic environments of organization Developing
capacities to lead in organizational situations; to apply knowledge in new and
unfamiliar circumstances through a conceptual understanding of relevant
disciplines; to adapt and innovate to solve problems, to cope with unforeseen
events, and to manage in unpredictable environments.
Developing a commitment to an area of specialization and acquiring advanced
knowledge in that area; developing advanced theoretical or practical skills for
that area; devoting explicit attention to the role of the specialization area in
managerial and organization contexts.
This program will help me specialize in Management domain during the course
of study. It is because of my recognition of the importance of accounting that I
have decided specialize and pursue a career in this field. I am motivated to
study Business program and management concepts by an awareness of the ever-
changing reality of the business environment and the need to upgrade my own
expertise and professional abilities.
Oxford Brookes University is a public university with campuses in Headington,
Oxford, England. Oxford Brookes University offers a personal campus
experience where I can truly realize my potential. With smaller class sizes, I
will thrive in the learning environments where I will know my professors and be
fully engaged. The university provides a transformative university education
that teaches me how to think, not what to think. At Oxford Brookes University,
they provide experiential learning, community based learning and internships
and helps to gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on application.

My objective of moving to UK is solely to attain a globally accepted

qualification, gain the benefits and ensure that I get a chance to implement it in
my place. After my studies, I will return to my hometown and invest in business
by starting a multinational company along with the very supportive family I
have here. I strongly believe that my qualification and experience which I
gather from UK will help me to establish a novel method in the field
of business in my place.I am very much passionate about the
business sector because I love to understand people and improve myself while
dealing with them. I hope that my education in UK will make me more
successful in the field of business and contribute to the growth of the sector in
India.

In hope of starting my studies in January 2020, I am sure that I can improve my

knowledge and skills in Business domain which I believe I can attain through
this study in Oxford Brookes University.
