ASYNCHRONOUS TASK 4 LECTURE 4

The above artwork illustrates how modern technology is affecting the

lives of each one of us. As you can see, a family is gathered together in a table
but each of them is holding onto their phones not minding their companions. In
this aspect, we can see that these people are too immersed on technology that
they tend to forget that there is a real world revolving around them. It is a fact that
technology contributes to society and influences how individuals interact on a
daily basis. Technology also has an impact on how people communicate, learn,
and think. But if we focused too much on our gadgets all the time, even when we
are at home, we may lose the real connection or bond between individuals and
this may cause a negative effect. You may be there physically but your mind and
attention is not.

Over the years, technology has revolutionized our world and daily lives.
Multi-functional devices such as the smartwatch and smartphone have been
made possible by modern technology. Computers are becoming quicker, more
portable, and more powerful than they have ever been. Technology has made
our life easier, faster, better, and more enjoyable as a result of all of these
revolutions. But there is more to that. Enframing, according to Martin Heidegger,
contains the true content or essence of technology. This is the process of
bringing something that has been hidden out into the open. This is a never-
ending revelation. Heidegger regarded technology as a means of unveiling, and
he continues to call for something to be revealed. However, there is a risk of
nonstop disclosing.

One is when a person misinterprets anything that is provided to him. That

is, he sees himself in the object in front of him instead of the object itself. There is
also a possibility for man to become so engaged in the enframing that he fails to
consider the implications and repercussions of his focusing on an object that may
be harmful not only to himself, but also to the environment and other people. This
occurs when he begins to believe that technology can solve any problem that
humans face, and that even man's happiness is based on technological
advancement.

Many people's lives have been influenced by social media. The above
illustration depicts how face-to-face social connections are decreasing. This is
not a hopeless situation for humanity. Heidegger stated that this can be avoided
if man does not allow himself to be overwhelmed by the enframing he has been
given, but instead takes a moment to consider the value of what he has been
given. One must realize that technology concerns both the means and the end,
as one proverb puts it: "The end does not justify the means." The remedy,
according to Heidegger, is for man to stop dominating and manipulating what he
is focused on and instead allow nature to show itself to him. According to
Heidegger, this will allow man to have a free relationship with technology.
