Trip Adler, CEO and Co-Founder

Inspired when trying to help his father publish a medical paper, Trip started Scribd in 2007
with a simple observation that even with the rapid increase of blogs and other self-publishing
tools, there was no easy way for people to publish to a readership of millions. This insight led
to an online publishing revolution.

Named to TIME’s list of tech pioneers and Bloomberg Businessweek’s list of best
entrepreneurs in 2010, as well as Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2014, Trip has been at the helm of
Scribd’s vision, growth and transformation since the company’s founding.

Upon determining that users also wanted access to a variety of content from traditional
publishers, Trip expanded Scibd into its current model, combining democratized publishing
with a reading subscription service. Under Trip’s leadership, Scribd has grown into one of the
largest libraries in the world where readers can access millions of titles for one monthly price.

Trip embodies the Scribd value of Characters with Character, investing in all employees and
their diverse stories, ideas, and talents. Moreover, he appreciates an eclectic backstory. Prior
to co-founding Scribd, Trip tested the waters with a ridesharing service, a Craiglist service for
colleges, an informational call center, and a social media site.

He graduated from the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with a major in
Physics, and in his spare time, Trip loves to surf and play the saxophone. In fact, in 2007, Trip
earned Scribd’s first revenue — $17 — by playing the saxophone outside the office during the
Christmas holiday. One book that influenced Trip is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which
tells the story of a boy traveling through North Africa and metaphorically reflects an
entrepreneur’s journey.
