Introductory Message
To the Parents:
Greetings of good life!
This learning material is made for your child to learn the needed knowledge, skills and
attitudes in COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING NC II. This is composed of discussions,
activities where your child can learn, embedded links for supplementary learning resources
and suggested computer and mobile applications or software that your child may use for
simulations and applications. The Introduction is all about the knowledge that your child
already knows. This part connects what is already known and what is about to be learned.
The Development part provides the needed information and skills to be learned.
Engagement part has activities which will strengthen the mastery of the lesson. The
Assimilation part includes assessment to determine if your child has acquired the needed
skills and gives opportunity for your child to reflect for their own learning/life skills.
As a guardian, you have a great role in helping your child to learn while at home. Your
guidance is needed so that he/she can understand the lessons and instructions better.
Nevertheless, you may let him/her work independently so he/she can develop his/her skills
fully.
If you have any question or if your child needs help about the lesson, please do not
hesitate to call or message us. We are ready to assist you.
When you return this to school, his/her teacher will check and record your child
responses and progress.
Thank you for always showing love to your child by continuously helping them to learn!
To the Learner:

INFORMATION SHEET 5.4 NETWORK CABLING BASED ON FLOOR PLAN

Source: conceptdraw.com

Network cabling diagram is also called network design.

In network cabling we consider the following;

a. Floor plan
b. Dimension of the facility
c. No. of floor levels
d. Location of the modem or main patch panel.
e. Electrical wiring
f. Network architecture

After considering the factors cited above, you may now determine the following:

a. Length of cable to be used

b. Number and types of Connector
c. Number of nodes (switches and routers)
d. Network configuration

9
Information Sheet 5.5 Network Interface Card Configuration
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQXr1QXx_oo

Network Interface Card or network interface controller (NIC) is a type of PCI expansion card
as it is plugged into the motherboard's PCI port. They are responsible for translating data on
the computer into a form that can be transferred via a network cable or wireless network signal.
There are two main types of NIC cards with specific configuration types: ethernet and
wireless.1

ETHERNET - a network connection referred as wired connection.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLziLmaYsO0

1. Go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network connections.

2. Select and right click to Ethernet.
3. Select properties.
4. Under Networking Tab, select Internet Protocol
Version 4(TCP/IP).

10
DHCP Configuration

In this configuration, the computer will

obtain automatically IP Address
through DHCP. To see the assigned IP
address, go to command prompt (CMD)
then type ipconfig/all then press enter.
Other network related information
about the computer will be displayed.

Peer to Peer Configuration

Computer 1 Computer 2

Peer-to-Peer can be automatically obtained through DHCP or manually configured, from the
previous lessons each computer must be in the same IP class but different IP addresses and
within the range of the subnet mask or the same subnet mask if both computers belongs to
the same network. Peer-to-peer connection can be done even with or without a switch or hub.
In direct connection, crossover cable connection will be used since we are connecting the
same type devices and straight-through if the connections will use a network switch or hub,
since we are connecting two different type of devices (computer 1 to switch, then switch to
computer 2).

11
Client- Server Configuration

Client Computer Server Computer

In Client-server network configuration, client computer will automatically obtain from the
given IP address range of the server (DHCP server), the preferred DNS server is usually
the IP address of the server.

Under Ethernet properties is sharing tab,

wherein you can allow other computers to
connect to internet through a main
computer or server. The said main
computer will control the internet
connections of the entire network unless
the second option under sharing tab is
selected.

12
III. ENGAGEMENT (PAKIKIPAGPALIHAN)
What’s More

Activity 1: MATCHING TYPE

Match the type of UTP cables in Column A with the correct descriptions in Column B

Column A Column B
1. CAT3 A. 10Gbps
2. CAT4 B. 100Mbps
3. CAT5 C. 16Mbps
4. CAT5e D. 1Gbps
5. CAT6 E. 10Mbps

Activity 2: TRUE OR FALSE

Write CPU if the statement is True or correct and RAM if the statement is False or incorrect.
Underline the word/s or phrase/s that make/s the statement incorrect.

1. The punch down tool is also known as the Krone tool.

2. Both end of the LAN cable is T568A therefore the cable is a crossover.
3. Both peer-to-peer and client-server may use DHCP.
4. Multimeter is a useful device that allows you to check the continuity and signal of
network cable.
5. Network cabling is based on network configuration.

Activity 3: CONFIGURE. Using the first 4 IP address of Class B create a peer-to-peer

network configuration.

Using the floor plan given (see attached activity sheet). Draw the appropriate network design
and write a maximum of 5 sentences description of the output.
PERFORMANCE TASK B (Learners with materials or gadgets and limited internet access)
• Learners will create a demonstration video of network cabling and send to the subject
teacher. He will create a crossover cable using 3 pieces of RJ45, I/O modular patch,
2 sets of wire (50cm each), and LAN cable tester.
Network Cabling to do
• 1 set is Rj45 to Rj45 straight-through (A to A)
• 1 set of I/O to Rj45 crossover (A to B)
• Connect the two cables together and test using LAN cable tester
PERFORMANCE TASK C (Learners without materials but with gadgets and internet access)
• Learners will send a video or screen recorded clip to the subject teacher and brief
description or explanation of the task using UTP cable simulator. Or
• Learners will send a screenshot of created floor plan with network wiring and
description or explanation of the task using sweethome3d.
For android phone:
Download UTP Cable simulator by jarnmode on Google Playstore.
For online:
• Go to www.sweethome3D.com , and select online application.
• Create a floor plan using sweethome3d
• Have a screenshot of the floor plan
• Using the picture of the floor plan, draw the network design using network symbol
• Send to the screen of the output to the subject teacher.
Disclaimer: Please check the gadgets’ specifications or application requirements to avoid
problems. The subject teacher and the school will not be liable of any loss of data or damages
may occur upon installation this software.
