LEARNING PROCEDURE
Appropriation
As cited by the famous painter Pablo Picasso “Good artists copy, great artists steal”. These are existing
artworks that are appropriate to produce another art and to look contemporary. It is a combination of the new and
old elements. It is defined as the use of prints, images, and icons to produce another art form. It combines past
from present and revives interests to existing forms of art.
Below are examples of Appropriation.
Performance
Performance evolved to “emphasize spontaneous elements of chance”– Walker Art Center Interpreting Various
human activities such as chores, routines, and rituals, to socially relevant theme such as poverty, commercialism and

Space
Arts that transform spaces, for example flash mobs, art installations in malls and parks. Site Specific Art Forms– art
form that is performed and positioned in a specific space such as public spaces. Examples are flash mobs and art
installations.
Hybridity
Technology
Usage of technology in the creation and dissemination of art works Video phenomenon from MTV to the popular
video streaming platform YouTube. Recording performances, video posting, sharing, live streaming

3 MAJOR CONTEMPORARY ART FORMS
a. Visual or Space arts- are also known as “Space arts” simply because they occupy space in making and displaying
them. Example of visual arts are Painting, Sculpture and
Architecture.
