Appropriation
As cited by the famous painter Pablo Picasso “Good artists copy, great artists steal”. These are existing
artworks that are appropriate to produce another art and to look contemporary. It is a combination of the new and
old elements. It is defined as the use of prints, images, and icons to produce another art form. It combines past
from present and revives interests to existing forms of art.

Performance evolved to “emphasize spontaneous elements of chance”– Walker Art Center Interpreting Various
human activities such as chores, routines, and rituals, to socially relevant theme such as poverty, commercialism and

Hybridity

3 MAJOR CONTEMPORARY ART FORMS
a. Visual or Space arts- are also known as “Space arts” simply because they occupy space in making and displaying
them. Example of visual arts are Painting, Sculpture and
Architecture.

Painting- Are visual arts are expressed lines, form, texture,


value, or color. It is being used as decorations, educational
device, etc.

Sculpture- expressed either by carving, shaping, or molding. It


deals mostly with human figure, animals, decorative
lampshades and pottery

Architecture – This visual art is expressed through rhythmic features,


such as windows, ornaments, columns and tile flooring

3. Combined Arts – Also called “Performing or Performance


Arts” it combines both visual and auditory elements. They are usually performed on stage or on screen.

 Circus – A form of entertainment that generally consists of


displays of horsemanship; exhibitions by gymnasts, aerialists,
wild-animal trainers, and performing animals; and comic
pantomime by clowns.
