PROGRESS REPORT ON PROJECT IHAP


(An Intervention Program for Numeracy)

Can-avid National High School, on its quest to deliver quality education, has
met the challenge of increasing number of non-numerate learners because of the
distance learning modality.
Hence, intensifying the conduct of Project IHAP, which is an existing project
of the Mathematics Department. Aside from intensifying the said project, this was
also modified by adding more intervention activities that would address the gap of
learning.
Regional Memorandum No. 279, s. 2019 declared an institutionalized
conduct of Unified Numeracy Test to identified Grades 1 to 10 learners. The said
Regional Memo has been reiterated through Regional Memorandum No. 280, s.
2021 by adapting new strategy in conducting the numeracy test which will be
facilitated parents or any qualified family member.
Pre-test was conducted last September 30, 2021. Numeracy Test
Instruments were distributed together with the self-learning modules. Post-test for
1st quarter was conducted last November 26 and 2 nd quarter last February 14.
While 3rd grading post-test was conducted last April 22, 2021.
Post-tests were conducted to non-numerates only.

PROJECT GOAL
Numeracy Test is designed to determine the mastery level of the learners on
the four fundamental operations. Pre-test results show that 12% of 1,893 students
from Grades 7 to 10 are non-numerates. Identified non-numerates are priority for
the interventions.
Specifically, the project aims to achieve the following objectives:
1. Provide remedial activities to promote numeracy among high school
students of Can-avid National High School.
2. Enhance numeracy skills to elevate non-numerate learners to highly
numerate learners.
3. Develop competence and positive attitude towards learning.

INTERVENTIONS DURING DISTANCE LEARNING MODALITY


 Intensified monitoring and supervision were conducted by the
clustered team of teachers in every barangay. Math teacher and
identified non-numerates performed one-on-one series of drills and
activities to develop mastery of the four fundamental operations.
 Learning activity sheets were then given to follow-up and reinforce
learning. Regular “kumustahan” was also conducted.

INTERVENTIONS DURING LIMITED FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES


 All Mathematics teachers conduct a 10-minute drill on fundamental
operations before delivering their lessons. The said drill has time frame of
one month which will transcend from basic Math operations to complex ones
for the succeeding months.
 All learners from Grades 7-12 are required to memorize the multiplication
table. During supervision of classes, department heads assess if learners
have mastery on this by calling them randomly. In some instances,
Department Heads bring with them flash cards for the learners to answer as
an enrichment activity.
 On Fridays, Math teachers conduct remediation activities using a Levelling
Up System. This system is composed of 3 levels that contain basic skills in
high school Mathematics. Level 1 worksheets involve operations of whole
numbers, level 2 are integers and level 3 are algebraic expressions. If
learners get perfect score, they shall advance to the next level. The goal of
learners is to reach level 3 which is the highest level. Incentives, one pad
paper and a ballpen, shall be given to learners who have reached the goal.
