Compression Equation on In (a+ ala) i In (1 + plz] Fels Gey ~ 18S? ry 5 O25 o 0704 06 08 10 Normatied input = 255 is the compression parameter defined by Consultative Committee for International Telephony And Telegraphy (CCITT) G.711 2b ~—® Ithelps in minimizing noise, distortion, interference and reduction in the levels of crosstalk. © Companding helps in improving the dynamic range of the communication systems. ¢ Companding is used in telephony and other audio applications. Companding Model 2c rot—| comer —| ae —(eepneer |— ove * Companding model consists of 1. Compressor (Tx side) 2. Uniform quantizer (Tx side) 3, Expander (Rx side) * At the transmitting end the signal is compressed and uniform quantized * At the receiving end the compressed signal is expanded in order to have the original signal. Compressor At the transmitting end, the signal is first provided to the compressor. Output The compressor provides 1. high gain to low input signal and 2. low gain to high input signal. The output of compressor is provided to uniform quantizer resulting non-uniform juantization. ° Compressor Characteristic Expander “It performs reverse operation of compandor Output The expander provides 1. low gain to low input signal and 2. high gain to high input signal. Input Expander *This is done in order to achieve the Characteristic originally transmitted signal at the output.
