1.Sport Complex Sabarmati Riverfront Ahmedabad

● National Institute of Design (NID) is a design


school in Paldi, Ahmedabad ,Gujarat
● Area of the site: 20 acres approx.
● The site is located along the Sabarmati River. The
site measures about 20 acres. In its surrounding is
the Tagore hall, the kite museum and opposite to
the site is Diwan Ballabhai high school. 2.Patang Kite Museum
● Main Access of the site is from the main road.

History Surrounding context


The site is surrounded by Sabarmathi river,
Residential area, commercial area and public
buildings where NID campus acts as focus for the
surrounding structures.

● As a result of the Industrial Policy Resolution of 4
1956, the government of India invited the design
team of Charles and Ray Eames to recommend a site
program of design to serve as an aid to small Residential area
industries in India.
● Based on their document, 'The India Report', the
government of India set up the National Institute of
Design in 1961 as an autonomous national institution 1
for research, service and training in industrial design
and visual communication.

Entry
● The site can be approached through two entries:
one for the institute and other for residential area.
● No entry has been provided along the main road,
as it is a heavy traffic zone.
● From the main gate, the institute is hidden behind
thick foliage and is only visible once we enter the
main gate.
● The academic and residential areas are located far
apart with the narrow link between the two but
having separate access
● Both blocks have controlled entrances

Access
Vehicular movement: vehicular movement is
restricted only till the entrance for the visitors. But it is
possible from residential areas to academic block
vice versa. And pedestrian and vehicular movement
are not separated.

Views & Vistas
