PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION

Topic Check Up 1

1. What problems in communication have you experienced? How did you manage it?
I’ve experienced misunderstandings a lot of time because of the way I think, they
misinterpret my tone like I was mad but actually I’m just explaining in emphasizing
things. There’s one time that someone older than me talks about then things that I
say that doesn’t really involve her and she is just listening to our conversation, I
was talking to my friends at my age that time. Then she became offended and
started to say things and act mean, she ended up having a hypertension. I don’t
talk to her that time because in my mind I want her to calm down first so that we
could fix things while in a right and calm state of mind. On the other hand, she
thinks of it like I was so bossy and disrespectful and some of the people ask me to
say sorry to her, at first, I think like I don’t have to say sorry because it was her
fault for misunderstanding things but then I realized that I need to do something
because I’m responsible for that. So, the next day I hug her and say sorry to her,
we talk on what makes her mad and how can I avoid making her mad again. In
conclusion, I think healthy conversations comes with a right place, right situation
and right timing for it to come up good.

2. What sub-culture (local) or foreign culture do want to be connected with? Why?

I want to be connected to the culture of people in Japan, I think they are so
organized, wise and respectful. I can see through the internet how well-organized
Japanese people is, on how they stand in-line, cross the streets, throw garbage
and walking up the stairs. I can also see how wise they are in spending money like
they have that culture which they create a ledger at home to track their s and
expenses to avoid spending too much. I also see how courteous they are by
greeting other people and it’s been a part of their culture to bow as a sign of
respect. In seeing all this things, I badly want to be connected to their culture
because why not? They are so nice and their culture honors their country so much.

3. How are you going to prepare for the experience? (No.2)

I’m going to prepare by first, researching about the things that are nice and rude
for them, for me not to look like a bad person. I’m going to study about their basic
phrases and fundamental in their language for me to get familiarize and connect
to people effectively and for them to feel that I honor and value their culture
because I know how important language for Japanese is. Next, I’m going to
research about historical places and places that are not highly urbanize because I
know those are the places that is rich in culture and still traditional. Lastly, I’m going
to prepare my things for documentation to document things and share it to the
world and for me to be reminded of this memory always.

4. State your personal experience with the use of social media. What can you say
about it?
Social media keeps me connected with the people I cherish, in this time of
pandemic wherein we can’t go to other places or home to spend time with other
people, social media became our medium of communication. It also keeps me
updated about the latest happenings since there is now news and articles that can
be found on social media platforms and of course there’s COVID-19 updates that
informs me about the latest and reliable information about the pandemic. Social
media impacts the way I see things today, as I can see different opinions, videos
and literature about the truth of life l, my eyes and mind is becoming more open
about what the world is. Before I’m ashamed of being a victim of sexual
harassment but when I see people standing up for themselves and letting people
know that the victims of it is not wrong, and it all happens because of a suspect. I
became more open about it and now I’m advocating about being a voice for
ourselves and for others who can’t.
