Task 1- Dan Mace
Dan-A Man with a Golden Mind
From a gorgeous city of Cape Town, with an unquenchable thirst for spreading
positivity, a young Piscean with a mind of gold decides to propose to the people all
across the world the idea of living a simple yet impactful life in which one doesn’t
need to be compromising oneself no matter what
Unlike others, he is of the belief that one should do what makes one happy.
Ultimately, it will make others happy, too.
And when he says it he means it for he is doing what he loves doing which is
making funny & creative movies about the things that make him happy along with
his passion of surfing.
Guess what! Today, he has more than 780 K Subscribers on YouTube, around 200
k Followers on TikTok with 2 Million plus Likes which is without a shadow of
doubt an endorsement of his mastery as a content creator.
It all started when at the age of sixteen he started making films and later got
recognized by many popular brands like Red Bull, CNN, Al Gore and many other
famous ones. Moreover, he has also played his part in the 368 series shot in New
York. After getting international exposure he was invited to India in Mumbai to
direct a promotional video for the IPL Premier's. He has also worked with “The
Egg Films” which is one of the largest Production Companies of South Africa
He is none other than, a verified creator, one of the most popular TikTokers, Dan
Mace ,who knows how to film a beautiful place, produce music with bricks at
pace, make a funny weird face and last but not least doesn’t matter whatever he
does he manages with ease to ace.
However reaching this far was not easy for him at all. He went through difficult
times, too. He faced depression, got alcoholic and seemed to have lost everything.
Yet he stood up, gathered himself and overcame every challenge that crossed his
way.
All he has achieved so far in his life is achieved through extreme dedication,
consistency, perseverance and most importantly though knowing and pleasing
oneself not by doing world-guided stuff.
As he says
You are not perfect. And that’s what makes you perfect. (Dan Mace)
Who would have thought that one man from Madras with his pure intentions to
make his homeland (India) a better & cleaner place to live could come up with
something that would change the perception of the people about the use of waste
material in the region completely?
Isn’t it amazing that despite knowing the fact that plastic waste is India’s as well as
the world’s most formidable environmental challenge, Dr Vasudevan against all
the odds has had the courage to do research on finding ways to reuse plastic waste
for environmental sustainability.
It all started when he on TV heard a Doctor misstating the fact that plastic
“dissolved” in water bodies and caused pollution. He found it hard to digest for he
believes plastic to be a poor man’s best friend. In accordance with him banning
plastic will affect the life of people with low income. However burning or burying
it will surely affect the environment. Consequently he began performing series of
experiments to discover better ways to dispose the material. And one day when he
mixed warmed plastic with bitumen he came to know about the amazing binding
nature of plastic. That was the moment when the whole new idea of waste
management was born then & there.
As it is said hard work pays off, after years of research on processes of reusing
waste material ever since he joined The Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE)
in 1975 as an investigator, he developed a revolutionary technology to serve the
dual purpose of improving the quality of roads and also solve the problem of
plastic removal in the country. Moreover, he also highlighted the point that Plastic
roads decrease one tone of bitumen for every kilometer of road, saving Rs.50, 000-
60,000 per km. He protected a process of road-laying that includes sprinkling
destroyed plastic waste over hot rock, covering the stones in a slim film of plastic,
and afterward adding the plastic-covered stones to normal liquid tar and laying the
road
Regardless of being categorized as a low profile scientist, he has never shied away
from showing the world what he is made of. However when he was getting offers
from different parts of the world to share the technology he invented he opted to
serve his country first and stopped the idea from migrating by patenting it in 2006.
In 2018, He was awarded India's fourth highest Civilian honor Padma Shri in
recognition of his dedication to research and study for the betterment of
environment.
It was his never say die attitude that made it way through despite the slowness
shown by the authorities initially in adopting the technology in the country. Now
after years of struggle his efforts are bearing fruits as the Ministry of Environment
has asked the authorities to use new technology for the reuse of plastic waste
throughout India.
He is in his late seventies now but still influencing the world through his teachings.
He is a living legend, a plastic man with the strength of steel. He is Dr Rajagopalan
Yasudev who deserves to be applauded for whatever he has done as a service to the
planet Earth.
