1 CRANE CARRIER
Liebherr 8-axle forward control type carrier, max. driving speed of 70 km/h(77 km/h).
(Width in paranthesis is applicable for tyres 16.00 R25).
Width : 3m
Vehicle length : ca. 18,4 m
Overall length : ca. 21,3 m
Height with crane superstructure : 4m
Drive : 16 x 8
Turning radius : ca. 15 m vehicle
: ca. 16,5 m telescopic boom
Gradability : 31% (28%)
Ground clearance
below differential box : ca. 400 mm (450 mm)
below axle struts : ca. 330 mm (380 mm)
1.1 Frame
Make : LIEBHERR
Type : D 9408 TI-E
Combustion method : Diesel
Cooling : Water
Cylinders : 8
Output : 440 kW (598 PS) acc. to
DIN 70020 at 1900 min-1
Torque : 2600 Nm at 1400 min-1
Generator : Threephase current 80 A
Fuel reservoir : approx. 600 l
The engine corresponds to the emission regulations of the ECE directive 24.03 as well
as of the ECE directive 49.02 (EURO II).
Allison automatic transmission type CLBT 755 with electronic control , torque converter,
and hydrodynamic brake. Transmission graduation: 5 forward speeds and 1 reverse
speed.
2-speed transfer case with transfer differential, all driving axles are permanently driven,
differential lock.
The axles are welded of high-tensile grain refined structural steel and almost maintenance
-free.
1st axle : single tyres, steerable, driven via planetary
gears in the wheel hubs.
7th and 8th axle : single tyres, non steerable and non driven.
All cardan shafts are maintenance-free with 70° diagonal toothing. Just 4 fixing screws
enable a particularly faster mounting and dismounting.
All axles are optimally directed by longitudinal and transverse pull rods. The axles are
hydropneumatically suspended by hydraulic rams and vertically adjustable and
hydraulically lockable. Due to the formation of axle pairs, the suspension of the axles,
dependent on the travel condition, can be activated independent from one another or
with axle equalization. The travel conditions suspension locked or activated are fixed-
programs and are remote-controlled from the driver's cabin:
Program 1.1
Serves for supporting the crane. All axles are locked. Pressure equalization exists only
between both axles within the axle pairs 1+2, 3+4, 5+6 as well as 7+8.
Program 1.2
Serves for travelling with equipment on even ground.
All axles are locked, pressure equalization between all axles within the axle blocks 1-4
and 5-8.
Program 2
Serves for road travel. The suspension of all axles is activated. In travel condition, the
suspension range is:
Tyres 14.00 R25: 150 mm upwards and 150 mm downwards
Tyres 16.00 R25: 200 mm upwards and 100 mm downwards
For the improvement of the fording ability, the entire carrier can be lifted. For the reduction
of the overhead clearance, the entire carrier can be lowered. For travelling along slopes,
the entire carrier can be inclined by +/- 9°. When cornering, the lateral stability of the
vehicle is optimally assured by the hydropneumatic suspension.

1.4 Steering
ZF semi-integral power steering with 3 hydraulic pumps (2-circuit system). Two pumps
are driven by the engine, another emergency steering pump is driven by the axles.
Axles 1, 2, 3, 4 as well as 7 and 8 are steerable. The steering system corresponds to
the regulation 70/311 EEC.
1.6 Brake
The brakes are self-adjusting expending block brakes. A single-chamber air drier is
incorporated into the compressed air system..
The legal regulations in respect to the braking ratio of the crane are only met at axle
loads of up to max. 12 t (EC regulation 71/320/EEC).
Axial piston pump and gear pumps flanged to the engine for hydraulic support.
Emergency steering pump on the transfer case, driven by the axles.
1.9.1 Inclinometer
Electronic level indication (water level). Display on the control panels of the supporting
devices as well as in the crane cabine.
On the control panels of the supporting devices as well as in the crane cabin.

OWT-03
Superstructure 05/1999
Axial piston variable displacement pump, Liebherr winch with special grooves, with
incorporated planetary gear and spring-loaded multi-disk brake. The hoist gear is driven
through a "closed oil circuit", i.e. during the lowering of the load, the hydraulic motor
supports itself, by means of the closed oil circuit, on the variable displacement pump
(hydraulic shaft). The multi-disk brakes are provided for the exclusive use as static
brakes. Non-rotating hoist rope The rotation of the drum is displayed in the cabin.
The handling of big loads in steep position of the telescopic boom requires the rope of
winch 2 (see Pos. 4.7) or of winch 3 (see. Pos. 4.6) to be reeved due to the required
rope length.
Diameter of rope : 25 mm
Length of rope : ca. 450 m
Line pull : 126 kN
Max. line speed (outer rope layer) : approx. 130 m/min
2 slewing gears with axial piston fixed displacement motor within closed oil circuit,
spring-loaded multi-disk brakes, slewing speed of 0 - 1,0 min-1, stepless with 5
preselectable speed ranges.
2.9.1 Heating
Electronic basic module with power pack, microprocessor-central unit, monitor with
keyboard, pressure sensors, inclination angle sensor and length sensors. Convenient
interactive functions permit the setting of the crane configuration state. The configuration
state picture shows details such as the load charts. On the operating picture, graphic
symbols give information about nominal load, gross load, net load, working radii, boom
length and height under hook. Errors are indicated on the monitor by the error number.
Hoist limit switches, safety valves against pipe and hose breaks. Empty drum cut-off at
3 remaining rope windings. Anemometer with indication on the monitor. Supporting

OWT-03
Superstructure 05/1999
Consisting of:
Base section, telescopes I, II, III, IV and VI with 274 t boom head.
All telescopes are extended/retracted by a double-action hydraulic ram. The rapid-cycle
telescoping system TELEMATIK permits fully automatic or manual telescoping to the
various boom lengths. The telescoping procedure is controlled by the LICCON system
on the monitor by telescoping pictures. All telescopes are also telescopable under
partial load. The rope sheaves in the boom head are made of wear-resistant polyamide.

various boom lengths. The telescoping procedure is controlled by the LICCON system
on the monitor by telescoping pictures. All telescopes are also telescopable under
partial load. The rope sheaves in the boom head are made of wear-resistant polyamide.
Consisting of:
Pos. 3.2 with 84 m telescopic boom and an additional telescope III with
274 t boom head for 50 m telescopic boom length.
This combination permits to make use of the advantage of the long telescopic boom
as well as that of the short telescopic boom in respect to transport weight and lifting
capacities.
4.3 Add-on components for the rigid mounting of the lattice luffing jib
In order to employ the lattice luffing jib as a fixed-mounted jib of max. 63 m length, it is
necessary to mount a 2.5 m long F-adapter for fitting it at 0°, 20° and 40°. The LICCON
extension is included.
For the extension of the 50 m telescopic boom for TF- or TV-operation, it is possible to
pin a 14 m long lattice boom section to the telescopic boom. The LICCON extension is
included
Axial piston variable displacement motor, Liebherr winch with incorporated planetary
gear and spring-loaded multi-disk brake. The derricking winch is driven within a
“closed oil circuit“.
The derricking winch is equipped with quick-action couplings and can be mounted,
without a stand-by crane, into the supporting frame of the counterweight.
The derricking winch forms a single unit with the dericking blocks. The derricking
rope remains reeved during transportation. When using the derricking winch as a
hoist gear on the main boom, the rope must be unreeved from the derricking blocks.
Rope diameter : 25 mm
Line pull : 126 kN
Rope length : 920 m
Line speed in the outer rope layer : 130 m/min
4.7 Auxiliary hoist gear (winch 2)
Axial piston variable displacement motor, Liebherr winch with incorporated planetary
gear and spring-loaded multi-disk brake. The auxiliary hoist gear is driven within a
„closed oil circuit“.
The auxiliary hoist gear is equipped with quick-action couplings and can be mounted,
without a stand-by crane, in the supporting frame of the counterweight.
Rope diameter : 25 mm
Line pull : 126 kN
Rope length : ca. 750 m
Line speed in the outer rope layer : 145 m/min
For the operation with TA, TAF and TAN on the 50 m telescopic boom and on the 84 m
telescopic boom.
Consisting of:
Guying frame, fitted to the collar of the base section. A guying winch each is located at
either side of the upper section of the guying frame..
For mounting the telescopes without stand-by crane, a hydraulic support frame will be
mounted on a lowloader, which can lift the telescope sections to the level of the basic
boom and which permits a lateral displacement in order to align the telescope sections
with the longitudinal axis of the basic boom.
For ballasting of the crane, the mounting head (Pos. 5.2) is required additionally.
The device will be mounted on a lowloader to be supplied by the purchaser (not included
in Liebherr's delivery scope).
Two pin pulling devices for the pins between telescopic boom and superstructure as
well as for the luffing ram. Rapid-actions hydraulic hose couplings for the easy assembly/
disassembly of the hydraulic hoses.
approx. 300 l, mounted of the crane superstructure , in addition to the fuel reservoir
mounted on the crane carrier.
Electronic LICCON working area limitation system for the relief of the crane operator
by the automatic limitation of the working areas: Height of the pulley head, radius, slewing
angle and edges. Each limiting function can be activated separately or all together.

1 GENERAL
The automotive industry employs increasingly bus systems in order to reduce manufacturing
costs. Various users (actuators, sensors or other LSB users) are interconnected by a data line.
This excludes cost intensive wiring work and reduces the number of plug-and-socket
connections frequently liable to failures.
Each bus user is provided with its own intelligence in form of a microcontroller.
A communication between the individual users is realized by the bus.
power source
300mA
bus line
The above fig. demonstrates the communication of the individual bus users by an example of
a simplified bus circuitry. The switches represent the transmitter function, the lamps represent
the receiver. Each user has its own address which is available just once within the system.
The user 1 (CU0) has the address 1 and a master function, the user 2 (angle sensor) has the
address 2, etc. A maximum of 30 users can be connected to the bus.
The bus line is fed by a constant power source with 300 mA. Its object is to supply a limited
current of 300 mA against frame in the event of a short circuit. In order to ensure that the
individual users come to an understanding with one another, each of them should speak or
understand the same language.
In respect to the above example, this language could be the Morse alphabet.
When the system is switched on, the power source receives 24 V and supplies the bus line.
All receiver lamps light up. Each user is activated. The user 1 with the address 1 (master
function) starts to address the user 2 by actuating its momentary-contact actuator by the
Morse code. All users receive this message. The receiver lamps are flashing. User 2
recognizes that it is being addressed by decoding the message and returns its reply by
actuating its momentary-contact actuator.

BASIC CONCEPT OF THE LSB DATA BUS SYSTEM
The manner according to which the communication on the line takes place is defined by a
transmission protocol according to which all users operate.
When user 1 has received an answer from user 2 (software handshake), it can address
another user or enable the bus for other users.
In that case, user 1 switches itself into the listening mode and another user occupies the bus.
The transmission speed adapts itself automatically to the user with the lowest transmission
speed (baud rate).
In practical operation, the lamp and switch are replaced by a power transistor and comparator
in the bus interface circuit.
The activation or evaluation of the bus signals is performed by a microcontroller which
processes the TXD (transmitter) or RXD (receiver) signals of the bus interface circuit.

2 BUS INTERFACE
The bus interface circuit has been developed for 2-wire or 3-wire bus systems. The circuit is
incorporated into the input board of the CUs as well as into every bus user.

In case of the 2-wire system, the power supply of the application electronic (sensor) is
performed by clocked bus signals. If the bus signal is ”high”, the current passes via the fuse
F1, through the diode V1, to the storage capacitor C1. The capacitor is charged by the bus
voltage (24V). By means of this voltage, the connected electronic modules can be fed.
If the bus signal passes to ”low”, the diode prevents a discharge of the capacitor. The voltage
divider R1, R2 determines the LOW threshold of the connected comparator, which transforms
the digital bus signals into defined switch signals. The bus signal is always greater or smaller
than the signal at the negative input of the comparator. The comparator is switching according
to a defined manner and transmits this signal to the application electronic.
The operating point of the ”low-high” transition is defined to 1/3 of the bus supply voltage. The
switching hysteresis is between 1/3 and 2/3 of the bus voltage. The transmitter (TXD) consists
only of a power transistor which is short-circuiting the bus signal against the frame. Since the
bus is fed by a constant power source, a defined current of 2A passes via the transistor to the
frame. The information, which is transmitted on the bus line, consists of a pulse train of high-
low signals.
All bus users connected are hearing this information simultaneously. If one of the bus users is
defective, which would cause a short-circuit on the bus, the bus will not be operational.
The application of 24V directly to the bus line causes the fuse F1 to respond. The defective
user will be separated from the Bus. A new system start recognizes, that the defective user(s)
do not respond and thus reacts application-controlled.

3 BUS PROTOCOL
The serial data protocol, explained with the Morse code in the example, consists of a certain
number of pulse trains in practical operation. The information is transmitted within a 10 bit
wide data format, in the following referred to as character frame. Each frame starts with a start
bit, followed by 8 data bits and ending with 1 stop bit.
The users connected are synchronized by the break signal.
The break signal consists of one start bit, the following 8 data bits and 1 stop bit are low. An
attempt to synchronize the bus users can be recognized by an equal flicker of the bus LED on
the input board (bus interface circuit). (The bus master is transmitting break characters).

The communication on the LICCON system bus can take place by 7 different types of
messages:
4. 1-BIT ANSWER
The slave returns a 1-bit answer (e.g. hoist limit switch – lift top)
5. 16-BIT ANSWER
The slave transmits a 16-bit answer
(e.g. digitalized analog-value length sensor)
The above schedule shows that a message can consist of different message types.
Each message consists of protocol-, data- and check-sum frames.
The shortest message consists of a protocol frame with 1-bit data and a check sum frame.
The 1st protocol frame contains the address in bit 0 to 4, bit 5 to 7 contain the message type
identifier. The following 2nd frame contains the statement of the consecutive data frames in bit
0..2, and bit 3 to 7 the function identifier of the message.
Dependent on the type of message employed, a different number of frames is transmitted.
