What are the criteria for applying for scholarships to study in the UK for Indian students?
The basic criterion for the majority of the scholarship are the following:
● Chosen destination;
● Subject;
● Transcripts
● Curriculum vitae
● Statement of Purpose
● Writing samples
● Extracurricular activities;
● Volunteering;
● Work experience.
This is variable amongst the universities. There are some research programmes that
cover up to 100% of the tuition fee as part of the scholarships and do not cover the
living expenses. Government scholarships are more competitive when compared to
university scholarships, hence, the procedure should be initiated about 8-12 months
before the intake begins.
The general eligibility criteria for UK Scholarships for Indian Students are:
● Indian citizenship
Eligibility
● Candidates must be citizens of India and must have preferably attained 2 years
of work experience.
● They should have applied to three different UK University courses and must have
received an unconditional offer from one of them.
● Thesis grant;
Eligibility
The candidate must be a citizen of India and should have attained 60% marks in their
undergraduate degree to apply for Social Sciences and Humanities programs.
A declaration needs to be also provided by the candidates that they will not be able to
fund their education in the UK without this scholarship.
The Commonwealth Fellowship Plan is granted by the government for the students of
Commonwealth countries. This scholarship covers the entire tuition fee of the scholar,
one economy-class return and other allowances.
UK INSTITUTION-SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
The Global Study Awards
The British Council, Study Portals and ISIC, in partnership, grant ‘The Global Study
Awards’ to encourage international students to study in the UK to improve intercultural
relationships.
Coverage
The deserving scholar receives a scholarship worth £10,000. This scholarship is opened
twice a year to two international students.
● Have taken an IELTS test at a British Council centre, with a valid official Test
Report Form (TRF) issued by the British Council after 1st June 2017;
● Be able to provide a confirmation letter and/or official enrollment letter from the
institution by the time of shortlisting.
Coverage
The scholarship covers full or half tuition fees for the courses.
Eligibility

Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) offers 10 long-term awards every year to
international students which include accommodation and living expenses in Britain,
fees and a contribution to international fares.

● Have not received a CWIT grant within the last five years
British Council Great Scholarships announces around 198 scholarships with a total
budget of £2.6 million every academic year in partnership with 40 UK universities. The
scholarships consist of around 169 Postgraduate and 29 undergraduate awards from
art and design to engineering, law and management courses.
Coverage
Each scholarship is worth a minimum of £10,000 towards tuition fees for a one-year
postgraduate course.

Felix Scholarship
Coverage
● three universities - the University of Oxford, the University of Reading and the
School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), part of the University of London
offer the same.
Eligibility
Erasmus Mundus
Eligibility
● You have not carried out your main activity (studies, work, private visits, tourism,
etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the 27
European Union Member States, Iceland, Norway or Liechtenstein.
Coverage
Category A students receive an Erasmus Mundus scholarship of 47,000 euros for two
academic years, in order to finance their participation to the MACLANDS programme.
UK UNIVERSITY-SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
University of Westminster
Eligibility
● Copies of your qualifications (certificates and/or transcripts where you have met,
or are expected to meet, the entry requirements)
● If English is not your first language, you'll need proof of your English language
level
● International students who need a Student visa to attend the university will need
a copy of their passports
● A personal statement
● Details of referees
● Westminster Full-fee Scholarship offers 100% tuition fee waiver for students
pursuing a full-time Master’s program at the University.
● High Achiever Scholarship grants £2,500 per academic year for a full-time
undergraduate holding a September intake offered.
Coventry University
Eligibility
○ The CTBI Hardship Fund was set up in 1990 by the former Churches
Commission for International Students who are facing unexpected
financial problems during the final stages of their course.

Rhodes Scholarships at the University of Oxford is the oldest and the most prestigious
of all. There are five Scholarships provided to the Indian students, each year, who are

● The applicant must be a citizen of India. Person of Indian Origin and Overseas
Citizenship Of India cardholders do not satisfy the Indian citizenship criteria.
● The applicant must have undertaken formal education in India for 4 years in the
last 10 years and must be above 19 years and below 25 years of age.
Queen Mary provides numerous scholarships for Undergraduates, Master’s and Ph.D.
students. The university has invested over £ 25 million to support international
students.
Eligibility
● This scheme is available only to students who apply for and enrol on an eligible
course taught in specified school or faculty in the 2021/22 academic year.
● If you are awarded the scholarship it will be deducted directly from tuition fees
payable to the University. You must be able to finance the remainder of your
tuition fees and living expenses.
Coverage
thirty £3000 scholarships for applicants to our LLM and MSc programmes in School of
Law.
Outstanding aspirants from any country are eligible for Gates Cambridge, who are
looking forward to pursuing a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject that is
offered in the University of Cambridge.

MISCELLANEOUS
J.N. Tata Endowment
Open to all disciplines, this is a one-time loan scholarship to Indian students so that
they can pursue postgraduate studies abroad.
Eligibility:
The amount of loan scholarship ranges between INR 1,00,000 to INR 10,00,000.
A gift scholarship to students with excellent academic performance abroad may also be
awarded INR 7,50,000.
