Petrona Martínez is an Afro-Colombian singer of bullerengue, music native to
Colombia's Caribbean Coast. She is recognized for positioning bullerengue in
international circuits and in my opinion, she is the best representative of folkloric music.
In spite of her difficulties, she has toured Spain, Denmark, England, France, the United
States, Morocco, and other countries. I think her voice has no comparison, however, her
most important points of international recognition have been her three nominations
and a gramophone at the Grammy Awards for the best Latin music album. Because of
this, Petrona Martinez has been awarded the National Life and Work Award of the
Ministry of Culture of Colombia, the "Gran Orden Ministerio de Cultura", and the City
Council of Madrid Spain, She has taken her culture all over the world.
