Title:

Building Capacities for Educators and Trainers

Background

Educators and trainers are powerful agents of change for delivering the educational

response to sustainable development. But for them to help usher in the transition to a

sustainable society, they must first acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and

values. To address sustainable development issues, they must also develop the requisite

motivation and commitment. The third Priority Action Area is about building the capacity

of these change agents to facilitate ESD.

• Teacher education institutions deliver pre-service and in-service training on ESD

• National TVET agencies build the capacity of TVET teachers and trainers to address

ESD.

• Expected outcomes include, among others, ESD integrated into pre-service and

Inservice teacher education programmed (such as training certification and

accreditation standards aligned with the ESD concept, and ESD incorporated into

TVET training programmed); and the capacity of education and training institutions for

teachers and trainers (such as professional ESD workshops for faculty) enhanced.

Strategies employed in reporting:

• Presentation with Projector

• Reading and explaining of what was presented in the way of sharing your ideas and

relating into real life experiences in the context of education and school specifically.

What mechanism done to Strengthen understanding of Listeners. (Cite some authors

and researchers and have a list of references at the last page of the hard copy you are

to submit.)

The mechanism done during the presentation was sharing and explaining the context

with a modulated voice and strengthen with real life experiences. According to (Majumdar

2015) A powerful social learning strategy that creates an environment of learning is through

sharing experiences. Experiences are personal – but there is a lot of learning that can be

derived from them as well.

In addition, utilizing experiences for social learning is a tried and tested way of

learning. It aligns with the natural preferred way that most learners choose to learn and it

does so without forcing the learning. This mode of learning works for most industries and

verticals, but sales and retail are sectors where it has been especially successful. It is not the

only way that social learning works – but it is indeed, undoubtedly, one of the most powerful

ways.

How did you assess your performance as a speaker? If not done, you still have a chance

to use a tool in evaluating your performance as basis for final rating in your final exam.

Statistically done is best than purely qualitative. (Cite some authors back you’re your

assessment)

Scale Mean Range Percent Qualitative Description

5 4.20 – 5.00 84-100 Outstanding

4 3.40 – 4.19 68-83 Very Satisfactory

3 2.60 – 3.39 52-67 Satisfactory

2 1.80 – 2.59 36-51 Fair

1 1.00 – 1.79 35 and below Poor

I can assess myself as a speaker with a very satisfactory rating for I know that I

delivered well the context and ideas that I am supposed to share to the audience. In spite of

the challenge of rendering a 5 minutes idea in front, I can see from their eyes that they are

listening attentively especially when experience is shared.

Adapted from (Davis, 1993; Brookfield and Preskill, 1999) Discussions can be an

excellent strategy for enhancing student motivation, fostering intellectual agility, and

encouraging democratic habits. They create opportunities for students to practice and

sharpen a number of skills, including the ability to articulate and defend positions, consider

different points of view, and enlist and evaluate evidence.

What part of your sharing came out as the low of your performance? Cite authors.

The part of my sharing which came out as low was that timeliness. It’s very hard to

share and speak in front of the audience when you knew that your time is running out so

fast. I felt so nervous the even my voice is shaking. I’m so conscious that I might not deliver

the topics in just 5 minutes. It was quite fast for me but the most important thing is that, I

enjoyed. According to Raja (2017). Despite being competent in their field of work,

professional’s worldwide struggle due to lack of good public speaking skills. Their

assessments and appraisals are often not depictive of their professional competitiveness;

therefore, it is important for students to overcome public speaking anxiety before they transit

from academic life to professional life

What intervention you will do to improve your performance? Cite authors and legal

basis)
To improve my performance, I have to be well prepared: understood my topic, read a

lot related to it and cite examples that is beyond their expectation. Do not feel anxious and

dress properly to gain confident in speaking in front. According (Mulgan 2001) to Past

experience shows that delivery is rarely a one-off task. It is best understood not as a linear

process leading from policy ideas through implementation to change on the ground – but

rather as a more circular process involving continuous learning, adaptation and

improvement, with

policy changing in response to implementation as well as vice versa.

Actions for sustainability through co-engaged learning & Transformative

Leadership as a Driver of Change

Background of the Topic shared

In 2013, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) commenced the LEADearthSHIP

initiative on leadership and sustainability in India accompanied with its vision on preparing

youth for roles that mandates introspection, ideation and action within their institutions,

communities and cities. LEADearthSHIP fellowships entail intensive training aimed at

imparting twenty-first-century skills, and enhancing knowledge and competencies on

leadership and sustainable development. Its objective is to develop competencies in young

people that are relevant for creating an empowered workforce which would work towards

building low carbon societies.

Transformative leadership is the leadership required to move an organization through

major change. It involves creating and communicating a strong purpose – one that speaks in

terms of outcomes. In Guatemala and El Salvador, their youth experienced a host of complex

social, ecological and economic challenges, including extreme poverty, traditional gendered
ways of being, pockets of extreme violence, and complex and increasing risks to natural-based

livelihoods. SERES program was created in 2009 by Corina Grace and Antonio Cruz Sanchez

in their 20’s, in response to the urgent need for the large population in Central America to learn

the skills to cope with the growing instability and uncertainty that they were facing in their

communities as a result of political unrest, economic stagnation and climate change.

Using leadership, empowerment and education as its tools, this grassroots organization

started a process to mobilize young people to take action to address the most pressing

environmental challenges in their communities. Hundreds of action plans to address problems

such as deforestation, food insecurity, contamination of watersheds and environmental health

problems took root. This program aims to impact this system of risk by promoting aspirations

towards transformational leadership among youth.

SERES promotes a theory of change (What is true today, may not be tomorrow) that

embraces a context of uncertainty. It is based on a transformative learning ecosystem, and

recognizes that social change is achieved through an intersection between people, process and

place. Their aspirations and ideals are enacted through a system of transformative leadership,

dialogical engagement and change-oriented learning. The program has led to a range of

reflexive social engagements undertaken by youth leaders, including transgressive activities.

Through dynamic networks across a range of areas within and across communities, and create

and strengthen common connections among diverse groups.

Strategies employed in sharing

• Preparation

1. Consider the audience and what they already know

2. Visualize the stage and setting

3. Determine your objectives

4. Build your presentation

5. Practice

What mechanism done to strengthen understanding of listeners.

The mechanism done during the presentation was sharing and explaining the context

and making use of shared experiences. According to (Majumdar 2015) A powerful social

learning strategy that creates an environment of learning is through sharing experiences.

Experiences are personal – but there is a lot of learning that can be derived from them as

well.

In Addition, Clearly, listening is a skill that we can all benefit from improving. By

becoming a better listener, you can improve your productivity, as well as your ability to

influence, persuade and negotiate. According to (NEA 2002), Listening is an important skill

to cultivate. It helps you learn, develop friendships, and show your good manners by being

attentive and sharing the talking time. But not everyone agrees on what good listening

behavior is.

Use the result of his/her evaluation by giving feedback of the performance. Statistically

done is best than purely qualitative.

Scale Mean Range Percent Qualitative Description

5 4.20 – 5.00 84-100 Outstanding

4 3.40 – 4.19 68-83 Very Satisfactory

3 2.60 – 3.39 52-67 Satisfactory

I can assess its performance as a speaker with a very satisfactory rating for she delivered

well the context and ideas that supposed to share to the audience. In spite of the challenge
of rendering a 5 minutes idea in front, I can see from her that she is striving well to deliver

the topic.

According to (Ford 1974) Communication skills may take a lifetime to master—if

indeed anyone can ever claim to have mastered them. There are, however, many things that

you can do fairly easily to improve your communication skills and ensure that you are able

to transmit and receive information effectively.

What part of your sharing came out as the low in his/her performance?

The reporter employed the strategy called as Think Group Share (TGS). It is a modified

version of the known Think Pair Share (TPS). This strategy was employed the same method

as the TPS is. But the modification was, the listeners/learners are having a formation of small

groups instead of pair. assessed my performance as a speaker through utilizing the SPICE

model.

What advice you will do to improve his/her performance?

To improve her performance, I would rather suggest to her to be ready all the time

and be who you are in front of the audience. Show confidence to all and own the stage like

no one can bring you down. According to (Schrage 2011), Communicating advice is one

thing, getting to see how that advice is actually interpreted and communicated is another.

DepEd Order No. 006, s. 2020. Adaptation of the National Educators

Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) Interim Structures

Background of the issue:

Implementation of the NEAP Transformation, shall ensure that professional

development for teachers and school leaders in the Department of Education (DepEd) is

more strategic, integrated and programmatic, within the unified governance system where

there will be greater accountability in the programs.

What mechanism employed to strengthen understanding of listeners?

NEAP Interim Structure ensure that the new functions can be carried out seamlessly,

efficiently and effectively, while the final organizational structure of the transformed NEAP

is under development.

How would you make the issue/intervention become more clear, acceptable and

effective on the part of the implementers and other identified respondents?

This DepEd order was spread out to all regions all over the Philippines and was also

disseminated to the different division and districts for all schools, since it is really intended

for schools and for all the teachers. Moreover, the sharing on how they integrate it in the

institution was good. As a matter of fact, this D.O helps the respondents to be responsible

enough to do his responsibilities. Because of that, education takes place after. Education can

play a counterbalancing role in shaping a normative culture of safety, moderation and

informed decision making.

What part of your sharing you think is Difficult?

Actually, the hardest part is just doing it. As people we develop a fear that we will

get tongue-tied, lost, forget what we were going to say, look or sound ridiculous and so on.

It really is just fear of the unknown. And getting nervous on unfamiliar scenario in DepEd

since I am a newly hired that time.

What advice you can give to help implement the issue or solve the issue.

An effective teacher isn’t afraid to talk to other educators and learn from them. They

are willing to continue to learn their craft and take risks. They take the time to promote

student growth as well as improve their own performance. The rewards of being an educator

go to the professionals who are willing to go that extra mile or use their spare time to help

others. There are always learning and always growing

What suggestions you can give for the subject issues and trends?
School systems need to adapt to economic and social changes to equip students with

the relevant skills, knowledge, attitudes and values needed for success in future life and

work. Thus, Issues and Trends subject should not be taken for granted. The subject itself

help us to become more informed and efficient human being towards the trends and issues

occurring nowadays. The expansion of technology, particularly the advent of digitalization,

presents new opportunities and challenges to prepare students to be lifelong and life wide

learners. Students now need to not only learn information but also understand how to use it,

they need to interact successfully and respectfully with others, and take responsible actions

and work together towards collective well-being.
