1. How would you describe the Philippines as your city?

We all know that Philippines is a tropical country in Pacific Ocean. It consists of some 7,107 islands
which is located in the western Pacific Ocean. We, Filipinos are blessed for having a beautiful
natural landscapes and active volcanoes and extreme weather patterns. Aside from that, Philippines
as my city, it is known for having an abundance of beautiful beaches and delicious fruits. And also,
we’re rich both in natural resources like copper, gold and so on and of course human resources.
Maybe some people see the Philippines that it remains poor because of poverty, inadequate number
of good jobs, lack of investment in education that leads to high inequality of income but we have to
think about many things in the Philippines. The reasons why the Philippines could be the best
country, best city is that the remarkable beauty and undeniably friendly local, the Philippines isn’t
difficult to love.

2. What is your city known for?

I was born in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija and this is my city. Municipality of Pantabangan is a 1 st class
municipality in the province of Nueva Ecija, Philippines. My city known for having a beautiful place
in Nueva Ecija because this is the site of the Pantabangan Dam and Lake. Pantabangan is located at
the foot of Mt. Mabilog below Mt. Dalimanok which are found between Sierra Madre and Caraballo
Mountain ranges. In terms of arts and culture, the Pandawan Festival made its debut in April 2008,

3. What makes the Philippines a global city?

Let’s define global city first, as well as having the largest capital markets, a global city has resources,
strength and control over other countries. Therefore, a global city is the most important and
powerful city in the world that accepts the aspects of globalization. According to the week article,
Manila is a truly global city because Manila is at the center of some of the most important urban
trends of the past half-century and continues to grow at an exponential pace. Manila acts as the
headquarters for one of the world’s fastest growing economies. As nurses, nannies, construction
workers, and sailors, Filipinos, especially residents of Manila travel all over the world. They supply
the bulk labor that drives the global service economy.

4. As a student, living in a country considered to be the main problem is rapid population

growth, how are going to compete and survive the challenges of globalization?
Globalization is defined as the mobility across borders of goods and services, people, capital, and
knowledge. Globalization has transformed the modern world. And as a student, I know that
globalization shapes and will continue to shape the way people do business, travel, and connect.
Living in a country considered to be the main problem is rapid population growth, how am I going
to compete and survive the challenges of globalization? In my own opinion, globalization is part of
our life, bringing together for common or competitive goals. Some people say, Philippines remains
poor. When the country’s population grows, the economy should rise and the government should
do something better for us. So, how can we survive this problem? I think, we should have the
initiative to plan for ourselves or for our life. For example, in a family, family planning is important
and needed. If the married couple already know that the main problem of our country is the rapid
growth of population, they should not add another child especially if they can’t afford the needs of
the child.

Directions: Compare and contrast concisely the following concepts of globalization. (20 points)

“Global Village” vs. “Global City”

The term global village has been used to express the idea that people throughout the world are
interconnected through the use of new media technologies. In Global Village, everyone in small
villages tends to know each other, tends to live in close proximity with each other, and tends to
be impacted by one another's actions. Normally, we do not get the opportunity to visit all the
countries of the world but a global village hosted in your city or town brings the whole world to
your doorstep. Isn't that really exciting? Moreover the revenue generated for all stake holders is
attractive. While a Global City is a city that has the power to effect global issues and change the
global outlook. They can do this through a varied set of systems from politics to military and
economics, controlling and adapting the route the global economy takes. Low further says that a
global city is a city that is well thought out to be an important node in the world's economic
system. A global city has wealth, power and influence to other countries as well as hosts the
largest capital markets.
