Preliminary step on server side : Create User on OXE/OXO


• 8001 should be declared as SIP extension for OXE

• 8001 should be declared as Open SIP Phone for OXO

1. Define DHCP Server


Step1a: On window 2003 DHCP server, define vendor class (udhcp .8.1)

Step1b: Define option 66 & TFTP server

2. Install IP management tool


It can be used on Windows XP 32bits/64 bits, Win7 32bits/64bits

Please note that if you choose to deploy the 8001 devices using their MAC addresses as the
reference (instead of account-password), and if the MAC addresses are not continuous, you
would need to have Excel installed on your PC.

Note: Role of each configuration file


public.xml, this file has 3 aims:

 Choose between mac.xml or account_password.xml type of files to configure your


8001 devices fleet
 Upload to the configuration file or not when phone’s setting has been changed
 The frequency of phone uploading the information of “mac.info”

sys_Alcatel-Lucent 8001 DeskPhone.xml file

 This file includes the settings for non-sipuser part, such as SNTP, DTMF, provision, etc

Mac.xml and account_password.xml

 One of these two files is used for sipuser configuration part

account_Extern.xml

 This file includes the softkeys settings

Account_Phonebook.xml

 This file includes the personal phonebook settings

Enterprise_Phonebook.xml

 This file includes the Enterprise phonebook setting

FD000290.cfg and KD000290.cfg

 These two files will include pointers to phone binary & kernel files for update

3. Configure the base template


 Go to C:\Program Files\IP Phone Manage Tool\template, edit “baseconfigue.xml”,
remove the non sipuser part and save it
 The aim is to confirm the contents when creating configuration “MAC.xml” or
“account_password.xml”

4. Public.xml configuration file creation


 Open the “IP management tool”
 Click Public Setting -> Advanced, if the devices are deployed using their MAC
addresses, the left picture applies, otherwise (account & password based deployment)
please refer to the right picture here-below
 Click on Save to create the Public.xml file

5. Sys_Alcatel-Lucent 8001 DeskPhone.xml file creation


 Please provision one 8001 device with an IP address
 Connect from your PC to this 8001 device using your navigator, URL=8001 IP@,
user=root, password=root
 Configure the 8001 using its web interface (DTMF, SNTP, other general preferences)

 Within this web interface, browse through “phone maintenance -> basic ”, then hit
“Download” in front of “Configuration”

 Open the downloaded file (in the … directory), remove the SIP users part and rename
the file to sys_Alcatel-Lucent 8001 DeskPhone.xml
 Move “sys_Alcatel-Lucent 8001 DeskPhone.xml file” to folder “C:\Program Files\IP
Phone Manage Tool”
 sys_Alcatel-Lucent 8001 DeskPhone.xml file is now ready to be used

6. Account_password or MAC configuration


a. option 1: account_password.xml configuration file creation
Notes: if this solution is chosen, please do as described here-below, if mac.xml is selected,
please skip this step and go to the “mac.xml configuration file creation” step

 On the IP management tool, Click “Add setting” -> Generate “account_password.xml,


fill-in then click on « Generate »

Note: All created files are stored under the “C:\Program Files\IP Phone Manage
Tool\configue” folder

Now you can jump to the “account_Extern.xml configuration file creation” step

b. option 2 : mac.xml configuration file creation


Notes: if this solution is chosen, please do as described here-below, otherwise, you would
have already used the “Step 6, option 1: account_password.xml configuration file creation”
step and you can now skip to the “Step 7: account_Extern.xml configuration file creation”
step

 In the “IP management tool”, Please Click Add setting -> Generate “mac.xml”, to
make a template for mac.xml, such as 00268b001122.xml (This is a necessary step for
generating lots of mac.xml when MAC range is not continuous)
 If the mac range is continuous, you can use Start MAC and End MAC to create mac.xml
by, as shown here-below

 If the MAC range is not continuous, please


prepare an excel file containing two columns,
one is for MAC address, the other is for account
number

 Press File -> “Add setting from Excel”

 Select the excel file that has been created, the sheet name and the mac template
that have been created, within the file
 Select the mac template (e.g. 00268b001122.xml that you have created earlier) under
the “C:\Program Files\IP Phone Manage Tool\configue” folder

7. Account_Extern.xml configuration file creation


Notes: If the customer has some special softkeys requirements, the creation of a
account_Extern.xml file is needed, otherwise, please skip this step to “Step 8:
account_Phonebook.xml configuration file creation”

 Go to the web interface of one 8001 device, Phone setting -> Advanced -> Softkey key
and configure the softkeys as needed

 Go to phone maintenance -> basic -> configuration -> EXT Module on the 8001 web
interface and Download the configuration file
 Rename the downloaded file as account_Extern.xml file, such as 1006_Extern.xml

 click File -> Add Extension file

8. account_Phonebook.xml configuration file creation


Notes: If the customer has some special requirements for personal phonebooks,
account_Phonebook.xml is needed, otherwise, please skip this step to the “Step 9:
Enterprise_Phonebook.xml configuration file creation” step

 Go to the web iterface of one 8001, Phonebook -> Contact

Step 8:

 Go to phone maintenance -> basic -> configuration -> XML Personal Phonebook on the
8001 web interface and Download the configuration file.
 Rename the downloaded file as account_Phonebook.xml file, such as
1006_Phonebook.xml. As there isn’t any easy way to generate mass
account_Phonebook.xml file during deployment, you would have to copy the file and
rename it as needed.

9. Enterprise_Phonebook.xml configuration file creation


Notes: If the customer has some special requirements for Enterprise phonebook,
Enterprise_Phonebook.xml is needed, otherwise, please skip this step to the “Step 10:
Configure FD000290.cfg and KD000290.cfg files” step

 On IP management tool, click Public setting -> Enterprise phonebook -> Add Group

 Modify the phone book group record by pressing the “Manage Group” list item

 Press the “And Contact” list item to Add a Contact record. You can choose the group
of each contact record from the Drop-Down list box. Repeat the step to add all the
records

 Press “Manage Contact” list item, you can see all the records you add in the right list.
Double click the record if you want to modify the information.

 Enterprise_Phonebook.xml is now under folder IP Phone Manage Tool\configue

10. Configure FD000290.cfg and KD000290.cfg files


 If the 8001 phones need to be updated, please configure FD000290.cfg and
KD000290.cfg.
o To configure the FD000290.cfg; just input the phone binary name in this file.


o To configure the KD000290.cfg; just input the phone kernel name in this file

 Besides FD000290.cfg and KD000290.cfg, please make sure the binary and kernel files
are under the root folder of IP management tool as well

11. Put all the configuration files under the root folder of the IP
management tool
 Copy all the required configuration files in the folder IP Phone Manage Tool\configue
to the root of the IP management tool folder

12. Operating on the 8001 DeskPhone


a. option 1: Operation on 8001 if deploying with account &
password
Note: Since the phone can automatically retrieve its configuration file from the server, please
make sure the IP management tool is closed before plugging the adapter.

1. Plug the adapter of 8001 phones


2. Open the IP management tool
3. Input the account and password when the tips are displayed on the screen after
phone finishes the initialization;
4. Phone will retrieve the configuration.

b. option 2: Operation on 8001 if deploying with MAC


Note: Since the phone can automatically retrieve its configuration file from the server, please
make the IP management tool is closed before plugging the adapter.

1. Plug the adapter of 8001 phones.


2. Open the IP management tool.
3. Do nothing even when the tips for inputting the account and password pop up.
Phone will retrieve the configuration files automatically after the tips
disappear.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)


Moving a set (About 80s)

 If you want to move a set from one seat to another without any configuration change,
just make the DHCP server can send the tftp server correctly as you previously
configured, then unplug the adapter of the set and plug it again in the new seat.

Adding a set (140s)

 Create mac.xml or account_password.xml via IP management tool and put it under


root folder “C:\Program Files\IP Phone Manage Tool”
 The DHCP server can send the tftp server correctly as you previously configured

Changing a set (30s)

 If IsUploadConfig="0”: Change the set sipuser part setting, modify mac.xml or


account_password.xml under the root folder “C:\Program Files\IP Phone Manage Tool”;
Change non-sipuser part setting, modify sys_Alcatel-Lucent 8001 DeskPhone.xml;
Change the enterprise_phonebook setting, modify enterprise_Phonebook.xml; Change
the personal phonebool setting, modify account_Phonebook.xml; Change the sofrkey
setting, modify account_Extern.xml
 If IsUploadConfig="0”: Change the set sipuser & non sipuser part setting, modify
mac.xml or account_password.xml under the root folder “C:\Program Files\IP Phone
Manage Tool”; Change the enterprise_phonebook setting, modify
enterprise_Phonebook.xml; Change the personal phonebool setting, modify
account_Phonebook.xml; Change the sofrkey setting, modify account_Extern.xml

Removing a set (10s)

 Unplug the adapter of the set

Upgrading a set (4 ways)

1. Add the auto provision in the file sys_Alcatel-Lucent 8001 DeskPhone.xml when
creating it (upgrade binary about 4 minutes, upgrade kernel about 4 minutes)

2. Besides FD000290.cfg and KD000290.cfg, please make sure the binary and kernel files
are under the root folder of IP management tool, then reset the phone (upgrade
binary about 4 minutes, upgrade kernel about 4 minutes)

3. Upgrade the file via web by upload the binary & kernel file (upgrade binary about 4
minutes, upgrade kernel about 4 minutes)

4. Auto provision now via Web, the path is Phone maintenance – Advanced -> Auto
provisioning (upgrade binary about 4 minutes, upgrade kernel about 4 minutes)
