VII. CONCLUSION:

A DC Generator is said to be cumulative compound if the shunt field flux produced by the shunt
winding, reacts to the effect of the main flux produced by the series windings. This actively demonstrate
that the flux yield by the connection of the series and shunt windings, goes in the same direction. This
means that the total flux in the cumulative compound generator is equivalent to the sum of the shunt and
series field windings.

In a short shunt generator, the armature, shunt, and series are all connected in parallel while the
windings in the field are all connected in series. Also, the load is linked in series with the series field
coil. When the current in the series field winding is under no-load condition, the current does not flow
due to an open circuit. As a result of the circuit analysis, the current in the armature and the shunt
windings is equal. Furthermore, when there is no load applied, the cumulative total flux is equivalent to
the induced flux in the shunt windings. However, when a load is applied, the cumulative generator’s
total flux will increase as the shunt and the series windings’ produced flux is added.

Upon further observation, the armature and shunt current measured by the ammeter 2 and 3 does
obtained approximately equal values as well as the armature and terminal voltage measured by the
voltmeter. This means that the terminal voltage and shunt current is directly proportional to each other as
shown on the graph of the load characteristics of short shunt commutatively compound generator.
