Unknown Mentalist
INTRODUCTION
ReDD is a remote drawing duplication effect which can be performed over a voice
phone call, video call, vitual show and also, of course, in face to face performing
situations.
ReDD also qualifies as a propless effect as there are no props used and both the
performer and the participant are only ‘interacting’ with each other, either over a call or
face to face. A piece of paper which may be used is just incidental and is not necessary.
PERFORMANCE
Imagine that both the mentalist and the participant are on both sides of a voice call. Let
us denote the male mind reader with M and the female participant with P.
M : “Let’s try an interesting experiment. I will ask you a few fun questions. Actually 5
questions for the 5 working days of the week (excluding the weekend). I will also
mention an activity I was doing on that day, along with each question. You just have to
remember ANY ONE question and its associated activity. You can jot it down if you
want.”
The mentalist reads out the following 5 fun questions along with the day of the week
and the associated activity. The performer should read these slowly, clearly and with
emotion.
If required, the performer can repeat the 5 questions, if the participant has not got one
in her mind the first time around.
WEEKDAY
QUESTION ACTIVITY
MONDAY
What invention lets you look right I am sitting on a tree
through a wall?
TUESDAY
Everyone has me but nobody can I am like a stickman
lose me. What am I?
WED’DAY
What is at the end of a rainbow? I am standing in the
rain
THURSDAY
What flies without wings? I am driving a car
FRIDAY
What disappears the moment you I am meditating
say its name?
M : “Have you chosen a question and noted its related activity on that particular week
day?”
P : “Yes, I have one in my mind”
M : “Great, now simply IMAGINE you yourself doing that particular activity and at the
same time try to think about that question and see if you can come up with an answer.
It’s ok if you cannot answer, but trying to THINK about the question and its possible
answer is more important than actually coming up with the correct answer.”
M : “Have you got an answer? Just tell me yes or no but DO NOT tell me the actual
answer.”
P : “Err….no, I am not getting an answer. I have tried though” (even if she says that she
has the answer, you continue as below, irrespective of whether she has the answer or
not)
M : “Ok in that case, find out the BIGGEST word in your chosen QUESTION and try to
mentally transmit the letters of that word to me. It is very easy actually, just IMAGINE
yourself doing it.”
P : “Yes !”
M : “Ok. I am able to ‘sense’ some thoughts. Let me just jot them down. (And you
scribble something on a piece of paper.) I am sending you what I have just jotted down
to your phone. But please do not open and see it yet. (at this point you send the
participant a picture of the following which you had drawn)
M : “You said that you have not got the answer to your question. But I can see that the
answer is actually there deep in your subconscious. I can sense that the answer is TIME.
And also I can sense from your conscious mind that you are driving a car on a Thursday.
Is my sense correct? You can now verify what I just sent to you”
She would be stunned and will confirm that what all you said is of course absolutely
true.
METHOD
A simple classic principle and the rest is self working. By the way, the actual answers to
the above list of 5 questions, in that order are – A Window, A Shadow, The Letter W,
Time and Silence. These are fun questions which the participant will enjoy knowing the
answer to.
The longest words in each of the questions are progressively anagrammed. As follows.
EVERYONE DISAPPEARS WITHOUT INVENTION RAINBOW – i, o, n, a
EVERYONE i
DISAPPEARS o
WITHOUT n
INVENTION a
RAINBOW
As soon as you get a ‘NO’ in your pumping sequence, you of course know the word
among the above 5 and so consequently the question chosen by the participant – and
also the weekday and the associated activity.
But you say that the ‘psychic connection’ has got disturbed and will ask her to IMAGINE
herself doing that associated activity. And then you reveal your Remote Drawing
Duplication to the participant. All the 5 ‘activities’ are easy to draw – tree, stickman,
stickman in rain, car and meditation. For meditation you can draw the following simple
line drawing.
On top of the simple drawing you can write the weekday and below the drawing you can
also write down the answer to the question.
If the participant had got the right answer, she will only feel happy when you finally
share the correct answer with her. If she did not get the answer, she will be happy to
know the correct answer. Either ways it will be a happy ending.
So finally you have revealed, her activity as a remote drawing duplication, revealed the
correct answer to her ‘thought of’ question and have in the process proved your psychic
abilities.
Alternately, you can choose to just do a VERBAL DRAWING DUPLICATION i.e, to describe
the associated activity verbally to your participant and drop the actual sending of
picture of your drawing. But somehow I feel sending the picture to her phone has more
impact, as there will be recall value for it.
ALTERNATE PERFORMANCE
Now that you know the method, you can easily create alternate sets of fun questions or
different themes of serious puzzles or even funny or popular quotes etc. You can also
use the interesting theme of “6 word stories” (you can find this theme in my earlier
release PSYCONTEXT on Lybrary, which is based on different principles, of course)
Here is an alternate presentation where you can use fun quotes instead of fun
questions. So there is nothing for the participant to answer as such. There are 7 fun
quotes for the 7 days of the week and the 7 associated activities. As given below.
WEEKDAY
QUOTE ACTIVITY
MONDAY
"Money talks. But all mine ever says I am eating ice cream
is goodbye."
TUESDAY
"Worrying works! 90 percent of what I am reading a book
I worry about never happens."
WED’DAY
"I don't have an attitude problem. I am drinking coffee
You have a perception problem."
THURSDAY
"Always borrow money from a I am holding a flower
pessimist. He won't expect it back."
FRIDAY
"I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not I am sipping wine
sure."
SATURDAY
"Don't trust atoms, they make up I am watching the
everything." moon
SUNDAY
"Most people are shocked to know I am holding a ball
I'm a bad electrician."
If you notice, all the above activities are easy to draw – ice cream cone, book, coffee
cup, flower, wine glass, moon and a ball.
The longest words in each quote which are progressively anagrammed are as follows.
Worrying Goodbye Pessimist Everything Indecisive Perception Electrician – e i n c r a.
WORRYING e
GOODBYE i
PESSIMIST n
EVERYTHING c
INDECISIVE r
PERCEPTION a
ELECTRICIAN
METHOD
The method is the same as given for the main performance above. However, in this
case, as there are no questions to be answered but only quotes, you can do the remote
drawing duplication for the activity part, write the weekday on top of that, but below
the picture you can simply write the theme of the quote in one or two words – but NOT
the entire quote. This will have more impact.
For example, for Monday, just write the word MONEY. For Tuesday, write WORRYING.
For Wednesday, write the words ATTITUDE & PERCEPTION. For Thursday, you can write
MONEY & PESSIMISM. For Friday, write INDECISIVE. For Saturday, you can write ATOMS.
And for Sunday, you can write SHOCKED ELECTRICIAN. An example drawing duplication
for ‘drinking coffee’ activity on Wednesday is given below.
In your final reveal, you must NOT reveal the ENTIRE QUOTE but only one or two key
words as explained above. This will have far more impact than revealing the full quote
verbatim.
So finally you have revealed, her activity as a remote drawing duplication, revealed the
key words of her ‘thought of’ quote and also revealed the day of the week and have in
the process proved your psychic abilities.
Hope you will use ReDD to bring cheer and happiness to those who may be in need of that positive and
uplifting experience.
