The regal divine imagery here will not be new to most singers, but some may not expect the third stanza’s

image of God as mother. Yet it is part of God’s self-description in Isaiah 66:13. This Bohemian Brethren tune
resembles both Genevan psalm tunes and French folk songs.

God of love and grace, may your love flow through our messy lives
with your abundant grace. When we would close our hearts and
doors, open us to share your gifts with others. When we would
neglect the needs of your world, forgive us so abundantly that we
might be moved to give as abundantly as we have received. When
we let pride and self-interest rule our days, forgive us so that we
might live with humility and selflessness. In your abundant love

Because dense populations always result in concentrated hardships, this vivid yet timeless evocation of
urban need connects to our own day as well as to Jesus’ lament over Jerusalem (Matthew 23:37/Luke 13:34).
This tune was the first used with this text and is now customary.

Welcome to First Congregational Church of Evanston, UCC

We are glad you chose to be with us on this Sunday

morning! And we want you to know that no matter
who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you
are welcome here!

Childcare is provided in the downstairs nursery for

infants and children to age 5. The space at the back of the Sanctuary
available for our families. Children K-6 are invited to Sunday School in the
Church House after the Children’s Message.

Please sign the Attendance Pads in the pews. We invite our visitors to
include your name, address and email so that we might acknowledge your
visit with a card. All are welcome to join us after services in the narthex or
outside for refreshments and conversation.

Babies and Toddlers: Little ones enrich our community and add vibrancy
to our congregation. Please don't fret about coos or cries during the
service. All ages are welcome here. Visit our rocking chair area to find
books & coloring pages for use during the service, or drop off infants to 3
year-olds with our Nursery Supervisor. She'll take little ones outside to
Raymond Park during the summer, or downstairs to our nursery on the
lower level during inclement weather.

Children: After the Children's Message, all youth are invited to head
outside with our adult & teen volunteers to play in Raymond Park during
worship for Summer Spirit. On inclement weather days, leaders take
children downstairs to our library or fellowship hall for crafts & games. At
the end of the service, leaders bring children back to the sanctuary to
join their families for fellowship.

Masks are now optional in the sanctuary and church house, with the
exception of the back 4 rows in the sanctuary during worship. In those
rows, masks are required to provide safe space for those preferring to sit
near others also wearing masks. As always, we encourage you to wear a
mask to protect yourself and others.

We are hosting Family Promise guests in the church

house starting today for the first two weeks of the
school year, Aug 21st - Sept 3rd. Currently there is
one family in the program that includes a mother with her four children. If
you would like to bring a home-cooked meal or support one of our
local restaurants by buying a meal for the family one or more days during
their stay, please sign up on the SignUp Genius link found in your weekly
church email. Thanks for your help in getting this family off to a great start
