Career Pathway: Librarian!

Secondary School Experiences/ Education


● Take english classes to gain more knowledge on literature and writing
● Depending on the school, class level requirement could vary
○ More prestigious colleges may require more honors, AP or dual enrollment
classes.
○ May be useful to take honors, AP, dual enrollment english and research
classes to prepare for college
● Take the teaching pathway/ courses
● Yearbook/journalism could be useful to learn writing, technology, research
● Join clubs like english honors society, book club, yearbook
● Part time jobs in bookstores/libraries
○ Places like Barnes and Noble, 2nd and Charles, local bookstores
● Internships at libraries
○ Being an intern at a library could give you a glimpse into the life of a
librarian and provide training
○ Most internships you have to be 16+ (junior or older)
● Read a lot of books!
○ The more you read in your free time the more knowledge of different
books and genres
○ The more knowledge of literature you have the better you’ll do in the job
○ Expands vocabulary which is always good

● The best route to become a librarian is to get a bachelors degree in english,
english education or history education then get a masters in library science.
