Teaching Statement

Nurse educators are responsible for teaching the new generation of nurses. Through the

help of teaching statements, theory, and nursing philosophy, the nurse educator can influence

nursing students to reach their goals.

I value the uniqueness in the individuals that nurses care for daily. Meaningful

connections are important to me. Joyce Travelbee’s Human-to-Human Relationship Model

identifies the nurse-patient relationship as interpersonal fulfillment (Parola & Coelho et al.,

2020). Teaching is no different. As a nurse educator, I want to encourage my students and use a

Problem-Based Educational theory to address their educational concerns.

The teaching and learning environment is just as important as the teaching strategies used

to teach. The relationship between student and teacher needs to be based on trust and respect.

This will help the students reach their learning potential. My goal as a nursing educator is to

influence students based on my values in the nursing profession. I admire nurses who are patient,

kind, respectful, truthful, and courageous.

The metaparadigm of nursing is the basic structure of nursing. It can be adapted to nursing

education. The person is the student who is the focus of the education. Nursing is the general

principle. The environment is the learning setting. Finally, health is the promotion of balance in

nursing and life. I hope to teach students this important balance to prevent burnout.

The nursing and teaching statement philosophy is essential for the aspiring nurse educator.

My goal is to continually learn and improve to be a better educator and nurse for my students.
