In 

Meatless Days   Sara Suleri brings us into her childhood home in Pakistan. We
learn the names of all of the favorite foods and the habits both strange and
endearing of family members yet, we only receive this information in quick
glimpses. Suleri uses herself, each of her family members, and the telling events of
her childhood as small threads which she winds together throughout the story to
create a solid tapestry of her young years in Pakistan.

She begins by describing her conversation with her sister Tillat who has come
visiting her in New Haven; Connecticut , a US State, from kuwait with her three
childern.Sara says that she and Tillat would mainly talk about food when they met
so as they talked about delactalbes, suddenly Tillat got to remember a dish that
their mother used to make for Sara quite often namingly "kapura". Tillat asked
Sara what "Kapura" really were , when sara replied that they are sweetbreads and
are cooked with kidneys , Tillat crossed her by saying they are testicles thats what
kapura really are. Sara refused to believe her , but she kept on thinking about if
kapura really were only testicles. So she started raveling her memory , finding
traces of"kapura" in her childhood memories. She found the fact that her mother
always said that sweetbreads are sweetbreads, was she lying Sara did not know. Bu
after doing her research on kapura , she found herself be in deciet throughout her
childhood to really see that kapura equals a testicle. She says as she now
remembers her mother was the one who used "veiling phrases" for food naming
like "mutton dressed up as lamb" and "neither flesh nor fowl" ,so she doubted not
only her mother's adult food she gave to her when she was a grown up but also her
Ostermilk and Babyflo as well because her own trust has now been broken.
