Product Data Flame Inhibiting Paint

Intumescent
Introduction:
Today more than even before, any form of insurance against fire, any safety Physical Data
precautions which a property builder, owner or controller can take are welcomed.
With new structures the building regulations 1976, part E define everything Substrate : Wood or Gypsum
concerned with safety in fire from structural precautions to means of escape. Volume Solids : 48.00% (ASTM D 2697)
Included are spread of flame requirements for specific areas. Dry Film Thickness : 75 microns dry (in one or two
coats)
Combustible substrates, with any surface treatment applied frequently require a
Class 1 spread of flame rating B.S. 476 Part 7 Fire-Retard Inhibiting paint was Theoretical Spreading
designed to meet this need and is a sensible precaution on combustible building Rate @ 75 microns D.F.T. : 6.4 m2/Lt
surfaces whether or not the building regulations are involved.
Colour : White
Specifiers sometimes seek Class 0 rating for a combustible substrate. Three Thinner/Cleaner : Sweet Water
coats of Fire Retard on softwood quality for class 0 rating, as detailed below.
Flash Point : Non-Flammable
Description :
Firetard paint is a white interior and exterior vinyl emulsion, decorative and Packing : 5 Ltr / 18 Ltr tin
protective in itself. The product is also used as a base on bare or previously
painted combustible surfaces, prior to decoration with normal O.A.L. systems Shelf Life : 12 months
listed later in the leaflet.
Storage
Properties: Temparature : 5ºC upto 40 C
When fire attacks firetard, intumescense takes place. This is, the paint film swells
up to form a carbonaceous layer of rigid foam with good heat insulation. This Equipment Cleaning : Flushout equipment
retards the spread of flame, giving time in the critical initial stages for rescue work thoroughly immediately after
and fire fighting. use.

New combustible substrates Ventilation : Ensure good ventilation
