Daily Lesson Log TEACHING DATES & TIME: QUARTER: First
March 23, 2021 (1:00-2:00)

I. OBJECTIVES (What will your students be able to do by the end of the class).
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the subsystems (geosphere, hydrosphere,
atmosphere and biosphere) that make up the Earth.

B. Performance Standard

C. Learning Competencies Explain that the Earth consist of four subsystems, across whose boundaries matter and energy flow.
Write the LC code for each (S11/12ES-Ia-e-4)

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

 Describe the characteristics of the four subsystems of the Earth
D. Objectives
 Explain how these four subsystems are interconnected to each other.
 Internalize our roles as humans to protect the Earth from devastation.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson ELICIT: Access prior knowledge
The teacher will ask the class about the previous lesson and call somebody to share
what they have learned.

B. Establishing a purpose for the ENGAGE: Get the students’ minds focused on the topic
lesson Motivation: DOUBLE JEOPARDY GAME
C. Presenting examples/instances of 1. Class is divided into three groups.
the new lesson. 2. Students will pick a category and a point value.
3. Click on the chosen box for the question related to the new lesson.
4. If the group is correct, they are awarded the point value of the question.
However, if they got the wrong answer, the point value for that question
will be deducted on their current score.
5. The group with the highest points wins.

D. Discussing the new concepts and EXPLORE: Provide students with a common experience.
practicing new skills #1
Short discussion of the teacher about the lesson.
E. Discussing the new concepts and
practicing new skills #2 The four subsystems of the Earth are:
1. Atmosphere – the gaseous layer above the Earth’s surface primarily composed
of different gases such as nitrogen and oxygen.
2. Biosphere – the zone of the Earth where all forms of life exist. This serves as the
ecosystem of all living and non- living organisms.
3. Geosphere – the solid part of the Earth that consists the entire planet from the
center of the core to the outer crust. It includes core, mantle, and crust of the Earth.
4. Hydrosphere – the water part of the Earth that includes oceans and glaciers.

 GROUP ACTIVITY– Class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group

will be given 10 minutes to do the task and 2 minutes for their presentation.
A rubric will be used to rate their output.

Group 1: Sketch/Drawing – Draw the four subsystems of the Earth

showing their different characteristics.
Group 2: Connect The Spheres. Analyze the interactions of the spheres on
the Eruption of Taal Volcano. Discuss how they are interconnected to each
other.

Geo

Group 3: Song Reprise. Create a song reprise about the ways on how we
can save our Mother Earth.

abstraction about the lesson
1. What are the four subsystems of the Earth?
2. How does one sphere affects the other? What will happen to
the other sphere?
2. As a student, how can you save not only a particular
subsystem but the Earth itself?
4. Why it is important to take good care of our Mother Earth?

I. Evaluating learning EVALUATION: How will you know the students have learned the concept?
A 5-item multiple choice test will be given to measure the students’ learnings.

1. All living things, including land and sea made up the Earth. Which term best
described the statement?
A. geosphere B. atmosphere C. Ozone layer D. biosphere
2. Which of the following systems interaction are involved if the nitrogen is
returned to the soil when dead plants decompose?
A. biosphere and atmosphere C. biosphere and geosphere
B. geosphere and atmosphere D. atmosphere and geosphere
3. Among the choices, which clearly gives an example of connection between
hydrosphere and geosphere?
A. boats transporting goods C. water evaporating to make clouds
B. fish swimming in water D. waves eroding rocks on beach
4. How does matter and energy flow across the four subsystems of the Earth?
a. The atmosphere provides the geosphere with heat and energy needed for rock
breakdown and erosion.
b. The biosphere receives gases, heat, and sunlight (energy) from the atmosphere.
c. It receives water from the hydrosphere and a living medium from the geosphere.
d. All of the above
5. Why is ozone layer important in every single organism? Choose the one that
best describes its role.
a. It protects the plants and animals on earth from receiving too much ultraviolet
radiation.
b. It traps the heat from the sun.
c. It cools the earth through the evaporation of water vapor.
d. It cools the water.
