EEE 5371 Computer Assignment 1

In this assignment you are to perform the ADS Tutorial Exercise entitled
“Introduction to ADS for RF Circuit Design” in the PDF document “ADS Tutorial
Exercise.” This tutorial assumes no prior experience with the software and proceeds in a
step-by-step basis to introduce the construction, simulation, and tuning of an RF circuit
using ADS. Those who are familiar with the ADS software may want skim through the
first dozen or so pages and proceed directly to the finished circuit diagram.
“Screen shots” of your results may be obtained and pasted into a Microsoft Word
document. That is how I authored this Tutorial. You may select or select all, copy, and
paste as usual; a copy of the entire front window may be obtained by pressing alt-
printscreen; a copy of the entire screen is obtained by pressing printscreen. In all cases,
launch Word and press control-v to paste the image into a Word document. This is the
preferred method to obtain output for submission.

For this assignment, submit the following items:

1. The original completed schematic of the circuit prior to tuning, as shown in

the figure on page 18.
2. The original mag(S(1,1)) plot prior to tuning, as shown in the figure on page
21.
3. The optimized rectangular and Smith chart plots for S(1,1) as shown in the
figure on page 24.
4. The optimized circuit schematic as shown in the figure on page 25.
5. The optimized microstrip layout as shown in the figure on page 26.

The assignment is due by the end of the day Thursday, September 1.
