Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Technical-Vocational Livelihood 12 Self-Learning Module on
Read Measurements In Terms of Current and Voltage.
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their
personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their
needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of the
module:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You
also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their
own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as
they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
iii
This module has the following parts:
Analysis : In this phase, you will process and classify what is valid
and not for a more in-depth understanding.
Abstraction : This part leads you in reinforcing what you know and
should know more. Exercises are presented for
independent practice to solidify your understanding and
skills of the topic.
Application : This stage brings you to a more practical way that you are
going to use what you have learned and think new ways
on how it can be improved further.

are encouraged to become observant in order to learn deeply the different scale
ranges set by the two units that you are about to learn.
Moreover, in this module you will be able to learn how to read measurements
of current and voltage. Just take the series of activities and as you learn make
reflections for you to have a deeper understanding of the lesson. Are you now ready?

Reading Measurements in Terms of
Current and Voltage
In performing maintenance or repair of certain electrical devices, electricians
are challenged to understand how to set the selector switch to the right unit of the
multi-tester based on the type of situation where this unit may seem to fit. Knowing to
measure the continuity, source, and ampere rating that the device draws during the
operation is a requirement. As future electricians, we are not only focusing on setting
the selector switch to the right unit. Moreover, we are also required to do reading
measurements based on the point of the pointer of the multi-tester. Knowing this is
helpful in the sense that in doing maintenance there will be a time that we will
encounter low voltage in the actual situation. We cannot determine this if we don't
know on how to read measurements value point by the pointer of the multi-tester.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Directions: In your own understanding, determine the equivalent count of each tick in
a range of scale of the multi-tester for current and voltage. The first one is done for
you.

Determining equivalent count per tick within specific range of the scale for
voltage
10 ACV 10 V 0.2
50 ACV 50 V 1 None
Note: Only the 1000 volts set range in the selector switch has the multiplier in order
to match the set voltage of the selector switch with respect to the scale range to be
focus and that is 10 x 100 is equal to 1000. For voltage 10 – 250 the counting is already
made available in the scale. You just have to be aware of the equivalent value per tick.

Greenfield, (2018). What are the steps in measuring current using an analog
multimeter? For example, when your selector switch is pointed to 2.5mA, and the
pointer scale is pointed to .45, what should be the manual computation for that?
