ACKNOWLDGEMENT

First of all, we would like to express our greatest gratitude to University of Gondar for its internet
and library service to search additional materials.

Secondly, we would like to express our gratitude to our instructor Dr. Abebe for delivering
research methodology course in concise, explicit and exemplary ways and giving us this group
assignment, which helps us to work together for acquiring additional knowledge on “research
methodology” and to have a sense of team spirit to our future career
Ten questions to ask when critically appraising a research article.
1. Is the study question relevant?
2. Does the study add anything new?
3. What type of research question is being asked?
4. Was the study design appropriate for the research question?
5. Did the study methods address the most important potential sources of bias?
6. Was the study performed according to the original protocol?
7. Does the study test a stated hypothesis?
8. Were the analyses performed correctly?
9. Do the data justify the conclusions?
10. Are there any conflicts of interest?
Summary of the study
The research to title was “Performance Assessment of Storm water Drainage Systems in
Gondar City”
There for according to our course the research title should be
 Definite, Concise, should indicate of what is to come, In the smallest possible number of
words, should almost never contain abbreviations.
So the title is a definite, can show the out came with the smallest words and could not uses
abbreviation but it could not show the time boundary.

Statement of the problem

Is adscription about the gap of knowledge or finding the problem which could not solved by other
researchers before and states the problem clearly? So from this paper the statement problem
describes about the location of Gondar city being at the foothills of mountainous or topography
effect is the main challenge of storm water drainage problem.

Objective of the study

The main objective of this research is to evaluate the existing storm water drainage systems of the
most flood-prone areas in Gondar city.

. Specific Objectives

 To evaluate the capacity of existing urban storm water drainage systems in the study area
 To assess land use land cover changes affect the storm water runoff of the study area
 To identify the major challenges in urban storm water drainage management systems in the
study area

Research Questions

 Do the existing drainage systems perform well?

 Do the land use land cover changes the impact of storm water runoff within the study area?
 What are the major challenges in urban storm water drainage management systems?

Significance of the study

 For future construction of drainage
 For mitigation of drainage
Scope and Limitation of the Study
Therefore, some representative major flood-prone areas were selected. According to the residents
these areas have been flooded most of the rainy season and based on field observation three major
flood-prone areas were selected.

LITERATURE REVIEW
The aim of a literature review is to show your reader (your tutor) that you have read, and have a good
grasp of, the main published work concerning a particular topic or question in your field. So the
researcher refers about 65 journals and papers in order to check the originality of the paper and to find the
correct gap or problem of the study. And also he discuss enough information about the study from those
different literatures.
