(Matter)

 Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.

 Mass is the amount of material in an object.
 The force that an object exerts on another object is called
gravity.
 Weight is the pull of gravity on another object. Weight tells me
how heavy or light an object is.
 Volume is the space that an object occupies.
 Weight is affected by your location on Earth. It changes a little
bit as you go higher. Mass, however, does not change at all. If
your mass is 30kg (units of mass) on Earth, you will also be 30 kg
on the Moon.
 But your weight on the Moon is very different from weight
here on Earth. Your weight on the Moon is only 1/6 of your weight
on Earth. To set your weight on the Moon, divide your weight on
Earth by six.

3 States of Matter
 Matter can be in the form of solid, liquid, or gas. These are
called the forms, phases, or states of matter.

Solid
 A solid material always has a definite shape. The shape can be
regular or irregular. Some solid materials with regular shapes are
round plated, cylindrical cans, square table, and rectangular
frames. Some materials with irregular shapes are chair, trees,
sandals, and dresses.

Liquid
 A liquid does not have a definite shape; it only follows the shape
of its container. A liquid material is composed of tiny particles
that move freely. Liquid materials can be poured from one
container to another.

Gas
 Most gases cannot be seen nor tasted. We can only feel them.
You can also smell some of them. Air is gas. You know that there is
moving air if you feel it. Light objects sway when there is air.
Examples of gases are oxygen and air.

Changes in Matter

 A material can undergo different kind of changes. These changes

may be physical change or chemical change.

Physical Change
 A physical change is a change in the physical appearance of an
object without any change in its composition.
 The physical appearance of an object may be changed in different
ways. These ways include cutting, breaking, folding, tearing,
slicing, sharpening, and crumpling.
o Another example of physical change is evaporation.
 Evaporation is the physical change of liquid matter
to gas. Through evaporation, water changes to gas
when it is heated.
o Another example of physical change is condensation.
 Condensation is the physical change of gas to
liquid. Gas changes to liquid when it is cooled.
Condensation produces water droplets outside a
glass of cold water. When warm air hits the cold
surface of the glass it is cooled and changes to
water droplets.
 Physical change also happened when an object freezes or
melts.
o Freezing is the process of changing a liquid to solid.
Water the becomes ice is an example of the freezing
process.
o Melting is the change from a solid to a liquid. Ice cream
that is removes from the freezer is an example of the
melting process.

Chemical Change
 A chemical change happens when a material changes in
composition.
 An example of this is rusting, when a metal bar is rusting, the
metal bar is going through chemical change.
 Also, a burning paper also undergoes chemical change, since
paper undergoes burning, it becomes a different material.

Pangunahing Ideya

o Magandang araw!
o Magandang umaga/ hapon.
o Maraming salamat po.
o Sa tingin ko po ay…

o Tuloy po kayo.
o Maaari po bang…
