WORKSHEET # 5

NAME: JOHN JOSPER B. CLORES SECTION: PY13

Table 1. t-test results Comparing Males and Females with their Sociability

Female Male
t (18) p Cohen’s d
M SD M SD

Teenager’s
5.60 2.50 3.10 2.13 2.40 0.027 1.08
Sociability

Note: a = 0.05

Table 1. It is shown that it’s statistically significant and has a large difference, t(18) = 2.40, p < .05, d =
1.08, between the mean number of sociability of teenagers that are male (M = 3.10, SD = 2.13) and
teenagers that are female (M = 5.60, SD = 2.50).

a. State the null hypothesis.

There is no significant difference between the sociability of male and female teenagers.

b. State the alternative hypothesis.

There is a significant difference between the sociability of male and female teenagers.

c. What is the obtained t value?

2.40

d. What is the significance of probability associated with the obtained t value?

0.027

e. What do the results indicate?

The results indicate that there is a significant difference and large difference between the sociability of
male and female teenagers.

Conlusion:
Since p-value is < 0.05, it only means that we should reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is
a significant difference between the sociability of male and female teenagers.
