Financial asset

A financial asset is a non-physical item, such as a bank deposit, a bond, or a stake in a company's capital
that derives its value from a contractual claim. Generally speaking, financial assets are more liquid than
other types of tangible assets, such commodities or real estate.

Non-financial assets are the opposite of financial assets, and they include both tangible property (also
known as real assets) and intangible assets, such as intellectual property, which includes copyrights,
patents, trademarks, and data. Tangible property includes things like land, real estate, and commodities.
