1. INTRODUCTION
This chapter describes basic information of the instrument.

1.1 Features
BC ROBO © system is an automated preanalytical system for the selection, kitting and
barcoding of blood collection tubes prior to a patient’s phlebotomy procedure. The system
receives electronic orders from either the Laboratory or Hospital Information System to
determine the correct tubes and barcoding placement along with a worklist.
Techno Medica has invented and developed BC ROBO © system in 1991.

Advantages of BC ROBO © system are,

・ Aids in reducing the tube being missed during collection.
・ Assists in any discrepancy between test and selected tubes.
・ Aids in eliminating patients missed from the work list.
・ Aids in the wrong tube being used during the collection.
・ Prevents no label being placed on the tube.
・ Assists in correct barcode tube placement to prevent from barcode reading errors.
・ Aids in reducing patient label mix ups.
・ Aids in shorten turn around time.
・ Less patient waiting time. Less queing leads to patient comfort.
・ Aids in increasing production.

BC ROBO-8001RFID, a premium model of BC ROBO families, is 8th generation

instrument. Production is fully tailor made based on customer’s requirement.
BC ROBO-8001RFID has all the good features of BC ROBO families with adding some
special feature such as,

Easy to use
Just load the empty trays into the system. The system will start to prepare the patients’
kits once it receives the data from Laboratory or Hospital Information System. No other
operations are required.

Modular concept (Exclusive feature for BC ROBO-8001RFID only)

The modular concept allows building a system that can be customized for almost any
situation. Options for BC ROBO-8001RFID are
・ Modular: Modular range from 1(4kinds of tubes) to 5(30kinds of tubes) to suit your
facility.
・ Automatic Blood Collecting Table(ABCT): It delivers the tray to each blood collecting
station by built-in conveyer.
・ Bag insert unit: It dispenses the tubes into a plastic bag instead of a tray.
・ RFID printer: Printer can be upgraded to use RFID labels.

Multiple backup capability

Multiple backup capacity minimizes down time. In the event of printer failure the
instrument has the capability to move the tube into modules that are still printing.

Automatic loading printer (Exclusive feature for BC ROBO-8001RFID only)

When you drop the label roll into the printer, it will be ready to use.

8
Tube drawer
Most tubes with a size of 12-17mm diameters and 75-100mm in length can be used.
Tubes can be replenished easily by opening a drawer. Drawers have error protectors to
prevent loading the wrong kinds of tubes.

Pre-label detection
The system detects the leading edge of the tube to avoid placing the label where it would
block the window of the tubes. This function enables the viewing of the volume and
quality of the blood in the tubes.

Quality control
Built-in barcode reader verifies if the barcode labelled by the system is readable and
matches with Laboratory or Hospital Information System data.

Two tray outputs (for standalone model only)

Outpatient and inpatient trays can be processed at the same time because of the two tray
output. Outpatient trays are sent to the horizontal output and inpatient or STAT trays can
be sent to the tray stacker.

Reject unit (for standalone model only)

The reject unit is designed to hold incomplete trays inside the system to ensure these are
not accidentally used.

Tray stacker (for standalone model only)

The system stacks up to 20trays to increase walk away time.
