Himachal Pradesh Landslides News Live Updates, 22 August 2022: Five more bodies
were found in Himachal Pradesh as the death toll due to heavy rain rose to 27 on Sunday. As
many as 96 roads have also been blocked due to landslides and rolling boulders. Round-the-
clock work is underway to reopen the blocked routes. The heaviest rainfall occurred on
Saturday, claiming 21 lives. In Chamba district, three people died instantly after a house
collapsed in a landslide early on Saturday morning. The family members of the deceased
were given Rs 30,000 as an immediate relief fund. Another person died in a road accident
in Shimla.Three bodies were recovered from two different places and at least five people
were reported missing as rescue operations, which began on Saturday following heavy
rainfall and incidents of cloudbursts in several Uttarakhand districts, continued on Sunday.
According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), two bodies were recovered from
Gwad village in Tehri Garhwal district, while another body was recovered from Raipur area
in Dehradun.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning
in parts of Gujarat for three days, till August 24. As per the IMD forecast, heavy rain is
expected in Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Navsari, Valsad on August 22 while on the
subsequent day, heavy to very heavy rain was likely in North Gujarat along with heavy
rainfall in the districts of Patan, Dahod, Mahisagar, Valsad and Kutch. Ahmedabad is likely
to have one or two spells of light to moderate rain with thundershowers on Monday. On
August 24, Kutch district is expected to have heavy rain at isolated places, stated the weather
bulletin.

New Delhi: Traffic snarl at the Ghazipur border as Delhi Police has stepped-up security and put up
barricades at various places on Delhi borders in the view of farmers call to stage protest at the
Jantar Mantar, in New Delhi, Monday, Aug 22, 2022.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a set of guidelines for commuters in view of the Kisan
Mahapanchayat organized by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha at Jantar Mantar. Delhi Traffic
Police has requested commuters to plan their journey in advance and avoid the mentioned
roads for convenience. Officials said security has been beefed up at Delhi borders,
including Singhu and Ghazipur points, ahead of 'mahapanchayat'. Special Commissioner
of Police (Law and Order) Dependra Pathak said,"We have made adequate arrangements
to ensure that law and order is maintained and there is no loss of life and property."
Traffic movement will be affected in many parts of Delhi as the police have put barricades
at border points, officials said.

Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan met Union Minister of Road
Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in Mumbai on Thursday. Gadkari has
sought the support of Bachchan to champion the cause of the National Road
Safety Mission in India. Nitin Gadkari's official Twitter handle shared the
pictures of their meeting. "Union Minister Shri @nitin_gadkari Ji called on Shri
@SrBachchan Ji in Mumbai today," Office of Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway, in India itself about eighty
thousand people are killed in road crashes annually which is thirteen per cent of the
total fatality all over the world.

K Sudhakar said the hospitals collected money from patients even though they were
covered under the Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka scheme under which the
government paid up to Rs 18 crore for their treatment.Bengaluru News Today Live

department after it received complaints that they collected money – amounting to Rs
18 crore – from the government while simultaneously charging Covid-19 patients for
treatment during all three waves of the pandemic, state Minister for Health K Sudhakar
said.Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said a healthcare
programme for advocates would be launched soon. Approval has been granted to
provide basic infrastructure at a cost of Rs 800 crore, he said after laying the
foundation stone for a bar association here in his home constituency. He further said
the government has given permission for having the bar associations in Shiggaon,
Savanur and Haveri, and would provide infrastructure and furniture to the buildings.
This would ensure speedy justice for farmers of this region.With the Congress in Karnataka all
set to hold protests censuring the egg hurling incident against party stalwart Siddaramaiah, Chief
Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said people should behave responsibly without
challenging the law and order. Addressing reporters here, he said, “We can function even
when there are differences of opinion, but no one should challenge the law and order
by taking to the streets.” He added that he has directed the police to investigate the
matter thoroughly and provide adequate protection to Siddaramaiah.

Gurulingaswamy Holimath dies
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai's media coordinator Gurulingaswamy Holimath
passed away on Monday due to cardiac arrest. He was 46 years old. On Monday
morning, he went to the gym and a few minutes after starting workout, he collapsed.
He was rushed to a private hospital. Gurulingaswamy had begun his journalism with
a Kannada regional newspaper Kannada Prabha and worked in several news
organisations before he became the coordinator to Bommai when he was home
minister. Bommai paid his last respects to Gurulingaswamy. The final rites will be
performed in Ramdurga in Belagavi district on Tuesday.

Geographically,
The mining-land of KGF is around 15 Kms long to the north-south –eastern border of
the state of Karnataka. This region is a highly mineralized part and is located at the
periphery of Kolar district. The location of this area was once referred to as 5 miles
north of Yerrakonda hill which is 400 ft high (3357 ft above sea-level) and south of
Dodduru or Bettarayan hill (2999 ft above sea-level). On top of both these hills are
temples in which the presiding deity is Lord Bettarayaswamy. Also this area lies 9
miles to the east of Budikote. The western border is marked by a large quartzite
ridge or the Ulagamadhi dykle also called Doddabetta which is 61 mtrs high (3195 ft
above sea-level). To its south –east is a large single stone hillock called ballager betta
which is 2975 ft above sea level. Being located 2893 ft above mean sea level, KGF
enjoys an equable climate same as that of Bangalore and is close to the boundaries
of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Just before the advent of British mining companies on the field, the entire land was
covered with irregular forest vegetations and posed an unattractive look. But, these
unattractive features attracted the men of zeal who reached the peaks of success
through hard work and perseverance. Results – on the once waste and discarded
land came a world famous Gold-mining industry and Gold town with Golden hearted
citizens who created a Golden History!

No Fairy-tale this! Kolar Gold Field – known throughout the globe over just as K.G.F. was a
pride of India for it was one of the big sources of Gold from which the world benefited since
ancient times. Activities for gold extraction commenced on this field since the time man
started using this most glittering metal. K.G.F. is the richest of all the major and minor Indian
Gold Fields that brought India the title ‘The Golden Peninsula’! where you walk on this field,
just pause a while – be proud you are standing on the Golden soil! Collect the mud below and
around your feet, pan it with water in a vessel, - you get fine powder of gold!.
K.G.F. was the oldest and largest gold mining industry in India. It has produced more than 800
tones through organized modern underground mining from 1880 to 1956 and continued its
operations till 2001 for further production. We do not have the actual record, as to the
quantum of gold produced from this field during ancient times. It is believed that nearly all
the gold referred to in the ancient literature of India was extracted from KGF. During 1970s,
this mine was producing 100000 ounces of gold every year worth about 3.6 million dollars at
the then prevailing rates. At one stage, there was a peak production of 350000 ounces a year.
