Capstone Project
Abstract
The purpose of this project is to
know on how the Homopolar Generator
Works and how it generates electricity
and also how does this helpful between
physics, chemistry, and biology.
Acknowledgement
The researchers would be
obliged to the project to the members
who share ideas on what the project
would be. As the members of the group
finally decided what project to make
that will benefit to the society is
wonderful and useful to all things that
need powering and that makes the
ideas to make it. By helping each other
on what project to make makes us
close together as classmates. Thanks
for the researcher’s families to provide
such financial support to help this
research possible that the researchers
will make. The researchers wanted to
give appreciation to each other to the
research project for making them close
together by sharing ideas, giving help,
and researching about the research
project to make.
I. INTRODUCTION
Homopolar Generator is an
electric motor that generates electricity
by electromagnetic induction. This
motor was invented Michael Faraday
which the motor is also known as
Faraday Disc. The Homopolar
Generator uses a highly conductive disk
to generate more electricity such as
Copper which is mostly used in making
a Homopolar Generator.
A. Background of the study
In these day Homopolar Generator
is very outdated and only few people
know about this, they only know that
our source of electricity is by natural
gas, nuclear energy, hydropower,
solar power and coals. But they
didn’t know that something called
Faraday disc or Faraday wheel is
invented, only few knows about this,
this has been a topic for many
research projects in the early
1800’s. Numerous successful
designs have utilized a single and
multi-turn coils that produce a
magnetic field which is necessary
for the motor to work. Homopolar
Generator is also described as
pulsed power supply for numerous
industrial applications such as large
metal cross section pulsed
resistance welding and magnetic
metal forming. According to Lamme
(2021), a homopolar machine rated
2,000 kW, 260 V, 7,700 A and 1,200
rpm with 16 slip rings operating at a
peripheral velocity of 67 m/s.
ll. OBJECTIVES
Through this activity, the students will
able to:
a. Understand the electromagnetic
induction
b. Increase the understanding of
how electricity was made
c. To nurture the understanding in
science topics and applying it
through work.
III. HYPOTHESIS
The researchers hypothesize the
making of Homopolar Generator by
using an “aluminum” instead of copper
to do some electromagnetic induction.
IV. METHODOLOGY
In this content we will tackle
about the materials and the procedures
on how the experiments is being made
step by step.
A. Materials
Stick Glue – Used to stick
the carboard to each other.
And attach the magnet in the
center of the cardboard.
Disk – This stand as the DIY
rotating disk.
Saw – Used to make the
base.
Wooden Base – This will act
as the base of the project,
with the measure of
(Lenght: 34cm Width:21cm
Thichness: 1.5cm)
Measuring Tape – To
measure the base.
Wrench – To tighten the
knots in the disk and
bearings.
Cardboard – Serve as the
holder of bearings.
Knots – To tighten the disk
and bearings, in order for it
to be in one place only.
Bolts – This will help the
bearing and the disk when
rotating it.
Screw hook – This supports
the wire to not fall when
hitting the disk.
Scissor – To cut the
cardboards and to cut the
foil.
Aluminum Foil – Used to
cover the disk and conduct
electricity.
Multi Tester – To measure
the amount of volts that the
project can achieve.
Magnet – This will be the
way to start a static magnetic
field and conduct electricity.
Long nose pliers – Used to
cut the outer sheath of the
wires.
Copper wires – Used to
connect in the multi tester to
know the measurement of
the electricity.
 Wooden coffee stirrer – Used
to be the holder of the
magnet.

Shoe Glue – To stick the

aluminum foil in the disk.

Glue Gun – To melt the glue

stick.

Bearings – To help the bolts

rotate efficiently.
