YOUR REFLECTIONS

As an educator it’s very important to us to know how to handle different

student’s attitude specially those students who have special disabilities.
Learning disability means that a learner has difficulty in one or more areas of
learning. When a learner trying hard to understand and still struggle in different
specific skills over time. It could be sign that a student has a learning disability.
It’s hard also to our part to identify what is the specific disability of one student
but if we focus on being observant in our student’s behavior during our class,
we can notice their differences.

When I was given the chance to talk to the parent of one of my students with Learning
Disabilities such as having an eye disorder called Dyslexia. Dyslexia is a learning disorder
that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how
they relate to letters and words (decoding). Also called reading disability, dyslexia affect
areas of the brain that process language. The first thing I will do is say what I noticed about
his daughter Clara’s performance in my class. I chose to make my classroom more adaptive
and engaging in order to avoid losing her attention.

The most important is I will communicate to her parents regarding on the result of her
checkup and what will be the possible way on how I can help Clara to cope up in our
different activities in our class. I will do this by using hands on learning activities, she will be
using her all senses that will definitely help her learn and retain information better.
Afterwards by giving immediate feedback it will help me make a good connection with the
parents and work with them to meet the needs of Clara with learning disability. Children with
learning disabilities need some additional support and modifications in their environment, as
well as in the type of activities they do, to keep Clara focus on classroom activities. In order
to cater and deliver quality instruction to students with learning disabilities.
