read the election legal guidelines of each U.S. State, Supreme Court decisions, and George Washington's
Farewell Address. The bill's strength to defend the vote casting rights of African Americans had already been
notably watered down by way of Senate Democrats, but Thurmond noticed the invoice as "cruel and unusual
punishment" and felt extra intervention was needed. In filibustering the bill, Thurmond went towards a prior
settlement among Senate Democrats and consequently received backlash from some contributors of his own
celebration in addition to the disapproval of Republicans. Despite this, the filibuster became wildly famous
amongst residents of the South. The filibuster in the end didn't exchange any votes within the Senate and the
bill become signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower much less than two weeks later.
