FINAL DEFENSE GUIDELINES

FOREWORD

As the COVID-19 crisis continually affects the local community of Tarlac province, so as the Tarlac State
University prepared its Guidelines in line with the protocol enforced by IATF and Tarlac LGU. Travel
restriction is still imposed by the TSU Administration with its students who are given much
consideration to protect them from the virus threats. Similarly, the TSU-College of Architecture and
Fine Arts’ manner in conducting its Final Thesis Defense for this School Year is aligned with the
university protocols.

THE DEFENSE GUIDELINES

a. The manner of Defense. The proponents are given the option to use the virtual presentation
in lieu of face-to-face presentation.
b. The design criteria. The design criteria wherein the consultants were requested to check the
Proposed Design shall be based on the Proponent’s Research Contents during the consultation:
• Considers the proposed design/built environment as part of the pandemic solutions and
emergency preparedness
• Introduces or develops state-of-the-art available and acceptable solutions to answer
future/anticipated pandemic-related problems
• Flexibility/Readiness of the proposed design in introducing alternative solutions to
accommodate additional activities required by the occupants
• Practical solutions applied to the proposal based on existing and emerging design and
construction technologies
• Conformance of the Proposal to the Building Design Standards and other Laws, Policies,
and Guidelines pertinent to Building and Site/Physical Planning
• Positive/Helpful impacts or outcomes to human health and the natural or built
environment
c. The Panel of Jurors. It shall be composed of three practitioners with a minimum of five years
of experience in the field as registered and licensed architects. They shall submit a CV
(curriculum vitae) to the thesis advisers through the proponents at least two days before the
final defense.
d. The Schedule. In the given duration of two weeks for defense, it is the proponent/s’
responsibility to inform and remind the juror about the schedule and guidelines. The juror has
the option to choose among the given dates from May 03 to 15, 2021 depending on his/her
availability and convenient time.
e. The Dress Code. The proponent/s shall be in his/their corporate attire or could use Barong
Tagalog for the presentation.
f. Submission of copies of the final oral defense presentation. E-copies shall be submitted at
least 2 days before the final oral defense schedule. Submission of hard copies shall be on May
21, 2021 (Friday), at the TSU San Isidro Campus Guard House.
g. **Submission of accomplished form. Accomplished Grade Sheets shall be submitted by the
proponent/s immediately after the last day of the proponent/s’ final oral defense.
h. An Incomplete (INC) grade means that the specific grade for the thesis cannot be ascertained
due to a lack of minor requirements that are vital to the thesis project. The completion grade
for an INC condition can be higher than seventy-five percent (75%) but not more than eighty
percent (80%). The completion period is two weeks after the final oral defense wherein the
last day of submission falls on May 29, 2021. Submissions made after the specified date will
not be accepted.

**The following form/table shall be filled out by the Juror after the Final Oral Defense, indicating the
date, the remarks/comments/suggestions, the grade, juror’s name, and signature. A screenshot in jpeg
format shall be sent back to the proponent/s and be forwarded to the adviser as proof that they have
undergone the defense.
