Course Overview
This course is an accelerated course that will cover topics from Pre-Calculus Honors & Calculus “A”. It is
designed to prepare you for College Level Calculus/AP Calculus BC. It will include algebra, trigonometry
and analytic geometry. You will need to gain a thorough understanding of elementary functions and their
graphs to be successful in the study of calculus. Linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, radical,
exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions are covered both algebraically and graphically.
Integrated within the study of functions is an exposure to derivative based Calculus.

📝 Grading Policy
I will grade using a point system. Every assignment is given a point value, depending upon the type and
length of assignment. To calculate your current grade, add all of your total earned points together, and
divide that number by the total points offered, and then multiply that decimal by 100.

We will be experimenting with a variety of formative and summative assessments-online, traditional

quizzes/tests (individual, partner, group), projects(individual/group), etc.

Q&A

What is your late policy?

Unless otherwise stated, work should be handed in on time. Extenuating circumstances arise, but you
must reach out to me personally to discuss your individual situation. Without extenuating
circumstances, at most 50% credit will be given to late assignments.

What if I try to use PhotoMath on every independent assignment?

PhotoMath can be a great tool for checking your own work, or for trying to straighten out a
misunderstanding that you have, but it is NOT a replacement for doing the work yourself. If you cheat
by way of copying answers off of PhotoMath, you only cheat yourself because your lack of
understanding of the material won’t be evident until you sit down to take an assessment and you don’t
know where to begin! At that point, it will be too late for your teachers to help you.

Are phones allowed to be used during class?

No - cell phones should not be out during class - please keep them out of sight (in a backpack or your
pocket). If I see or hear your phone I will take it from you for the remainder of the class.

Also on phones/ipads - No taking pictures or videos of anyone (including me) without prior
permission. No taking control of the Apple TV without permission (this will be considered a class
disruption and dealt with accordingly). No texting, tweeting, snap chatting, face timing etc. during class
& of course the school acceptable use policy must be followed. You need to stay on task while you are in
class-if something comes up and you need to look something up JUST ASK!

Are you available for extra help?

Yes of course! Just ask or email me. I post my extra help hours on the class weekly agenda (usually 2-3
Mon/Weds) but I can be available at other times if these times don’t work for you. I am also available
most days during break.

What happens if I need to miss class due to an illness, field trip, etc.

If you miss a class for any reason, (illness, field trip, band practice, etc.) It is your responsibility to
make-up any missed class work and homework. When you know that you will be missing class, email
me to check in and I will send you a copy of the notes / let you know what section of the text to read to
get caught up. Use the weekly agenda/Google Classroom as your guide.

Other Questions?

Just ask (in class or via email or Google Classroom post). I’m here to help and I make mistakes just like
you do so if something doesn’t make sense let me know!
