I. Identify the following program or software being described and write your answers on the space
provided.
Operating System 1. It is the most important software that runs on your computer.
Utility Program 2. It is a program that performs maintenance tasks for the computer’s resources, such as
clean up and organizing files and programs so they would load and work faster.
Device Drivers 3. It is a program that allows a particular hardware to work and communicate with the
computer system.
Antivirus Software4. It is a program designed to detect, identify and remove computer viruses and other
malicious software from the computer.
Open Source Software5. It is a free software and was developed as an open source program with the principle
wherein the source code can be freely modified, used, distributed, and opened by all.

II. Answer the following questions

1. What is the importance of Operating system? Operating System is the most important software that
runs on a computer. Operating System bridge the gab between software and hardware, allows us to
communicate to the computer and mostly all functions of computer relay on its operating system.

2. What is the difference between Microsoft and Linux operating systems?

Linux is a free or an open-source operating system and mostly used by programmers while Microsoft is
not an open-source operating system, it is costly and usually used by gamers and in businesses.
