Beliefs about marriage
Hudaism Hindus believe that marriage is
joining two souls in heaven
Christianity Christians look on marriage as a
sacred commitment. A couple
make their vows in sight of God
and this makes the ceremony a
spiritual act between them.
Judaism Jews believe that marriage
should permanent
Islam Marriage in Islam is a lifelong
commitment, based on
devotion to Allah. Muslims
marriage are arranged by the
parents and are sealed with a
contract.
Beliefs about divorce
There is no divorce in Hinduism
but today it is recognized that
marriages do not always last
and some Hindus get divorced
Some Christian do not accept
divorce, except in the case of
unfaithfulness, because of the
teaching of Jesus. Many
churches accept that marriage
sometimes break down. The
Catholic Church does not permit
the remarriage of a person who
is divorced unless the first
marriage has been declared null
or void by the church
Jewish people believe that it is
better for a couple to end their
marriage than remain together
in a state of conflict and
unhappiness.
Divorce is permitted in Islam. A
woman can obtain from her
husband if he is sterile, mentally
ill, abuses her or is in prison.
