I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Define injury.
2. Differentiate intentional injuries from unintentional injuries.
3. Classify the given situation as to whether they refer to intentional or unintentional injuries.

Reference: Textbook in Health Grade 9, pp. 371-373
Materials: Power Point, visual aids (activity materials)

Motivation

Good morning class! How are you today?

We’re doing fine Maam!
Well, I’m glad to know that.

So what time do you usually go to school I go to school 6:3O in the morning

in the morning?

Why do you have to leave your house that I have to leave the house early so that I can catch
early? the motorcycle/jeep before 7:3O O’clock in the
morning and attend the flag ceremony in school.

How about the others, what are your
means of transportation in going to
school? Where do you ride in going to
school?
So where do you think is much safer, to
ride on a bus, a jeep, motorbike, or
tricycle? Why?
I prefer to ride in a motorbike because I can save
time and effort. I ride on a jeep because the fare
is cheaper than riding a motorbike.
We can never say or we cannot assure that riding
a bus, jeep, motorbike and tricycle is safe
because we are always expose to danger.
Everywhere is a danger zone that’s why we
should be careful always in our everyday life
activities.

That’s true class! Accidents may happen

anytime, anywhere and to anybody, whether
you are rich or poor, old and young so it is
very important that we are aware of what these
possible dangers are. In connection to this
class, let’s watch this video.

in the video? They got injured.

Okay! Very good! All persons that involved in

an accident like in the video are expected to
got injured. I think our lesson for today is all about injury.

So now, what do you think is our lesson for INJURY- is a harm or damage to a person
today? cause by events or act of someone.

Very good! Based on the example given how

can you define an injury?
Yes!
Yes, that’s right!
But not all of those injuries come from
accidents only. Some are really planned to
happen. Do you agree?
Injury has two classification. What are these?
1. INTENTIONAL INJURY- is the result
of purposeful human action, whether
directed at oneself or others
2. UNINTENTIONAL INJURY- injury
that is unplanned or considered as
accident or not intended to happen.

ACTIVITY:
Let us have an activity.
 The class will be divided into 2
groups.
 The group 1 will classify the given
news headlines that belongs to
INTENTIONAL INJURIES.
 The group 2 will classify the given
news headlines that belongs to
UNINTENTIONAL INJURIES.
 The reporter of each group will
discuss their work after 10 mins.

NEWS HEADLINES
1. Student committed suicide after being
bullied.
2. Boy accidentally drowned himself.
3. Teenager raped and slain.
4. 14 killed as plane hits the ground.
5. Shooter kills 4, 19 injured.
6. 3 students killed in the initiation rite.
7. Classroom adviser tackled student with
knife.
8. Fireman’s face, severely burned on a
rescue mission.
9. Nurse poisoned herself to death.
10. Drunk security guard, hit by a car.
 ANALYSIS
 Based on your activity what helps
you to classify the situation to

IV. EVALUATION:
Directions: Identify the following statement.

1. It is a harm or damage to a person cause by events or act of someone.

2. It is an injury which results from a purposeful human action, whether directed to oneself or
others.
3. It is an injury that is unplanned or considered as accident or not intended to happen.

Directions: Identify whether the following statement is intentional or unintentional injuries.

4. The boy fell from a guava tree because he was bitten by an ant.
5. The boy fell from an avocado tree because he was pushed by his enemy.

V. ASSIGNMENT
List down unintentional injury that happens inside your house.
