Do you know that some people

of our country have left their

homes to go to other places in
obedience to GOD? Perhaps one
day God will call some of you to
take his message to another
land. Our Bible lesson today tells
of a man who heard God’s call
to leave his own country. One
day may be God will call some
one from you also to take his
message to another land.
UNIT 03 – The BEGINNING OF God’s Nation
Genesis 12:2
New International Memory Verse
Version
2 “I will make you into

a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name
great,
and you will be a
blessing.[a]
❑ In Babel People had begun to
worship the sun and stars and make
idols.
❑ In Ur they made their own religion
❑ They forgot God altogether
❑ But God kept on loving people
❑ He wants to know Him
❑ So He began working out the plan to
send His Son on earth
❑ The first step was to begin a nation
that would worship the true God
only
▪ God caused Abram’s father Terah, who served
other gods to leave the wicked and wealthy
city of Ur
▪ There were many comforts for such rich
people in Ur but They went Haran
▪ It was many days travel north from Ur about
465 Km
▪ Perhaps because Terah was old, they stayed in
Haran
▪ Terah died there
And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson
Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law
Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out
with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the
land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and
dwelt there. So the days of Terah were two
hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.
Genesis 11:31-32
❑One day in Haran God spoke to Abram
❑God asked him to go to the country that God is going to show him
Now the LORD had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation;

I will bless you

And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;

And in you all the families of the earth shall
be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3
❑How many wonderful promises did God give Abram?
❑Abram could have said, “How can I believe these strange
words? ”or “How can I be the father of great nation?”
❑He was already 75 years old
❑Sarai and he had no children
❑Could Abram find believe that he would have find the right
country?
❑Could Abram believe he would become a great nation with
a great name?
❑That he would be blessed by God and bring blessing to all
the families of the Earth
When God ask us to
do something, He
always promises His
blessing. Did Abram
obey? What would
you have done?
Genesis 12:4-6
4 So Abram departed as the LORD had

spoken to him, and Lot went with him.

And Abram was seventy-five years old
when he departed from Haran. 5 Then
Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his
brother’s son, and all their possessions that
they had gathered, and the [a]people
whom they had acquired in Haran, and
they departed to go to the land of
Canaan. So they came to the land of
Canaan. 6 Abram passed through the land
to the place of Shechem, as far as [b]the
terebinth tree of Moreh. And the
Canaanites were then in the land.
❑With all his possessions with Lot, his nephew and
Sarai Abraham left Haran
❑They came to land of Canaan, today called Israel
❑Canaan was to be the country of God’s nation
❑How please God was in Abram's obedience
❑Because Abram obeyed God, a whole nation who
knew God was formed
❑Through this nation God has given His word to the
whole world
