The Power of Magic

For a long time in my life, I have dedicated myself to learning skills that have served me

in many things, but none of them have managed to achieve what magic has done in my life.

Since I started with this beautiful art, I was intrigued to know the secrets and techniques that

were to be able to develop this skill, that it was something secret and mysterious that called my

attention a lot.

One of the most incredible opportunities that magic has given me was one day when I,

along with a friend, decided to make a video showing a bit of our skill with cards, an art a little

separate from magic called Cardistry, which consists basically in juggling or flourishes with the

cards. That day we looked for an excellent place to record, and we invited a friend to help us

with the recording. After a few hours, our friend told us that the battery in his camera would run

out but that he knew someone who lived close to where we were who could help us.

We did not know is that his friend was a well-known barber who works for several

famous people in Chile. He received us very well and asked us: "Could you show us a magic

trick?" Of course, we had to say yes, and it was a great experience for them and us. After that, he

told us: "If you want, you can continue recording your video in my house, take advantage of the

space." When he said that, we knew that we would have a fantastic video. His house was a place

full of incredible decorations, with various elements which we could use for the video, so we

could not believe where we were and what good people they were.

After spending an afternoon recording, a stranger enters through the main door, wearing a

hat and sunglasses. Upon entering, he took off his sunglasses and hat, and to our surprise, he was

one of the most famous comedians in Chile. At that moment, I turned to my friend and said,

"This day can't get any better." What we didn't know is that it really could do better.

We were three young people 16 years old wanting to make a video, being in a barber's

house with famous people. It wasn't long before the barber told him that we did magic. After a

few minutes, he approached us and asked us if we could do a magic trick for him. Of course, we

said yes. After some laughs and conversations, he told us that he found what we were doing very

cool and that he had some friends who work with magic, and that they were going to have a

place in the Lollapalooza show in Chile to show the art of magic.

We immediately told him that we would be interested and thanked him for the help. At

the end of that day, I remember very well that we left that house with my friends thinking that

what had happened that day was completely crazy, and we reflected on everything that had

happened and the things we had achieved just by doing magic. After a while, we got the job at

Lollapalooza, and we had the wonderful experience of being able to work there and, at the same

time, have the opportunity to see some of the shows that were performed there.

Experiences like this and others are the ones that every day remind me of the power of

magic, knowing that such simple art can generate such great connections with people, moments

which you can remember forever. After having this experience with my friends, I have always

tried to value my skills and interests, and I like to discover how far I can go with them. This has

motivated me to want to learn new things or skills that could be useful.

Today I still think that the power of magic is great and that being art that plays a lot with

people's feelings can create a great bond, a bond that can bring different opportunities in such a

short period. Magic has shown me that we can trust people in a single day and interact in an

authentic way when we manage to show our feelings. Since magic reawakens that love for

knowledge and makes you see that everything is possible, it makes you feel like a child again.

Thanks to this, people usually show their feelings more openly and allow you to interact with

them in a healthy and friendly way.
