Getting my Goat! Vo

July and I just found out I have day, August 3
drawn a Mountain Goat tag in
the Montana Fish, Wildlife and
Parks Drawing.
Now, drawing a
Mountain goat tag is not as
coveted as drawing a Rocky
Mountain Bighorn Sheep or a
Tyrannosaurus Rex, but it’s right
up there. Depending on where
you choose to hunt and apply
for a tag, the odds are about 1 in
10 that a Montana resident will
draw a tag. I have been applying
for 7 years and have that many
points. In all likelihood at my
age and because I cannot even
apply again for 7 years, I will
never have this opportunity
again.
Problem is, I really know
very little about what I am
getting in to. I know this involves
climbing mountains and stuff,
but what else? I call my friend
and hunting partner, Ken. Many
years ago, he bagged a goat bow
hunting. He will know what to
do! But his initial response is
something like: “That is a very
difficult hunt. Are you sure you
want to try that?” That is not
very confidence building, but it
also sets my determination.
