LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
I. OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the class, the students will be able to:
a. correlate the events found in the text, The Country’s Good son to the
history of the Philippine soldiers;
b. display an appreciation to the heroism of soldiers through showing a
tribute assessed through a rubric;
c. perform a song/ create a drawing, poem and letter as a tribute to the
brave, country’s good son.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:


A. Topic: The Country’s Good Son( A Burma/Myanmar Literature) by Minn New
Thein

For Timeline of Philippine Soldiers stories
B. Materials: powerpoint presentation, manila papers, videos, hand-outs, sticky
notes

III. PROCEDURE

 Presenting the lesson objectives

A. ACTIVITY
 Ask students of what they would like to become in the future.
 Wait until a student answer “soldier” as a chosen profession in the
future.
 Let the students show a song entitled, Born Ready by Zayde Wolf.
 Give students hand-outs of the lyrics of the song.
 Instruct the students to take note of the lines of the song that has
given the great impact.

B. ANALYSIS
 Ask the students the following questions based the video shown:
 What line of the song has a great impact on you and why?
 What does the song Born Ready try to express to the viewers?
 Why do you think the song has entitled Born Ready and used
soldiers on the videos? Why not other profession?

C. ABSTRACT
 Give students 5 minutes to read the text entitled, The Country’s Good Son by Minn
New Thein
 For the discussion of the literature, the class will be divided into 4 groups. Each
group will be given papers with printed responsbilities for each member.
 There would be a discussion Facilitator, Secretary,Explanator,
Intterogator, Timer and Peace Officer.
 The groups are incharged to answer the following questions:
 Group 1: Question 1 Who were the characters in the story?
 Group 2: Question 2 Which character do you like best?
 Group 3: Question 3 How do you think that these situation
could apply to Filipino soldiers? Give Reasons.

 APPLICATION

 Throwback Thursday
o Recalling of the different bravery shown by Philippine
Soldiers to the Philippines.
 Students will be shown a song tribute to the Philippine Soldiers who bravely
offer their lives for our country.
 In the same group, students will offer a tribute to our Philippine Soldiers.
o Group 1: Offer a song to our Philippine soldiers
o Group 2: Create a poster for our Philippine soldiers
o Group 3: Create a 5liner poem dedicate to our brave Philippine soldiers
 Group 4: Create a letter to the bereaved family of the beloved Philippine troops

 Rubric: Content: 10 points


o Creativity: 5 points
o Impact: 5 points
o Total: 20 points

 EVALUATION
 Essay:
 Create a short prayer for our deceased brave soldiers who willingly
offer their lives for peace in our country. Give appreciation to their
bravery and great manifestation of patriotism. You will be guided with
a rubric:
 Content – 5points
 Grammar and punctuation – 5points
 10 points

 ASSIGNMENT
o Create an appreciation post on social media(Facebook, twitter) about the
great manifestation of patrioism of our beloved Philippine Troops.
o Be guided with the following criteria:
o Content- 5 points
o Grammar and punctuation-5 pts
o Impact- 5 points
o 15points
