Curricular Program

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
 familiarize themselves with the provisions and policies of Republic Act No. 9163-
the NSTP Act of 2001;
 apply the NSTP Curricular Program and other related in-and off-campus service
and activities;
 explain the guideline for the National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC) with the
respect to its mission, functions, and organizations;
 implement the NSTP Course Program based on the designed instructional
program for semester coverage.

Topic 1: Introduction

The Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and the Literacy Training Service (LTS) of
the National Service Training Program (NSTP) lesson include both lectures and
practical applications. The lectures are usually held at the university lecture hall while
the practicum are conducted in the adopted target communities. The activities given
during practicum must be related to community extension projects and services.
The CWTS and LTS are two of the three components of the NSTP. These are
offer for two semesters as a three unit subject for CWTS/LTS-1 and CWTS/LTS-2,
respectively. Theses subject are requirements for a baccalaureate degree for both
female and male students. The curriculum program is design to encourage the youth to
contribute in improving the general welfare and the quality of the Filipino life. The
students taking the CWTS and LTS are expected to learn and acquire the values and
skills in community organization and development through management empowerment,
and social mobilization.

What is the National Service Training Program (NSTP) law?


The National Service Training Program (NSTP) law or Republic Act No.9163 is a
program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the
youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing training in any
of its (3) program components, specifically design to enhance the youth’s active
contribution to the general welfare of Filipinos.

1. Reserve officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)
2. Literacy Training Service (LTS)
3. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)

Guidelines for the Establishment of the National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC)

Background
Section 11 of RA 9163 or the National Service Training Program act of 2001 specifically
provides for the creation of a National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC), composed of
graduates of the non-ROTC components: the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)
and Literacy Training Program (LTS). Members of the Corps may be tapped by the
state for literacy and civic welfare activities through the joint efforts of DND, CHED and
TESDA.

The National Service Training Corps (NSRC)

Mission
To provide a trained and motivated manpower pool that can be tapped by the
state for civic welfare, literacy and other similar endeavors in the service of the nation.

Functions
1. To assist in the disaster preparedness, mitigation, response and rehabilitation
programs
2. To serve as an auxiliary to the Disaster Coordinating Council (DCC).
3. To assist in the promotion of civic welfare activities.
4. To assist in the implementation of the literacy programs.
5. To assist in environment protection.
6. To perform other similar endeavors.
7. To assist in the socioeconomic development

Course Program

The National Service Training Program (NSTP), Curricular Program for the Civic
Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and Literacy Training Service(LTS).

Course Description

The Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and Literacy Training Service (LTS) of the
National Service Training Program (NSTP) are designed to encourage the youth to
contribute to the improvement of the general welfare and the quality of life of Filipinos.
These requires student to carry out projects and activities contributory to the general
welfare and the betterment of the life of the community members or the enhancement of
community facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education, safety,
livelihood, environment, entrepreneurship, recreation, morals, patriotism and
nationalism of the citizenry, and other social welfare development

The CWTS/LTS Curricular Program consist of lectures and participatory, discussion,


team-building, and bonding activities that are designed to highlight values and skills
formation, especially that of team works, leadership, communication, and risk-taking in
the context of community organization and development, management, empowerment
and social mobilization.

LESSON 2
Self-awareness and Self-management

Self-awareness is define as an awareness of one’s own personality of individual.


The term self often refers to yourself, myself, himself/herself, oneself, and your
own self. This term refers to a person in a prime condition, as entire person or
individual. Awareness is defined as having or showing realization, participation
in, commitment to, realization and knowledge of the development of ones values.

Nosceteipsum is latin for ‘know thyself. Begin to know yourself, since the
essential formula for achievement is self-analysis.
1. Know your difference between your biological or inherited traits and your
environmental or acquired traits.

Topic 3: Examples and Types of Self-awareness

What are the example of self-awareness?

One of the example of self-awareness is seeing and recognizing oneself in a mirror.


Humans have a complex system of self-awareness or being, and no one has explained
this better than Heidegger. Humans have a self-awareness of distant past which include
both happy and sad memories

Two Types of Self-awareness

 Experience and power hinder self-awareness.


 Introspection doesn’t always make you more self-aware

Topic 4: Self-management sequence

Self-management

Management of or by oneself, the taking of responsibility for one’s own


behavior and well-being. It also means being able to manage the daily task to live well
with one or more chronic conditions. It means having the skills and confidence to take
charge of your medical needs, your everyday roles and responsibilities, and your
emotions.

Self-management sequence

Programming creates beliefs. Beliefs creates attitude. Attitudes creates thoughts and
feelings. Thoughts and feelings determine actions/behavior. Behavior creates result.
